261 casting number

hi there,, new to this site and searching for some info.      ive been able to determine my 261  is  March 17th 1959 yom..       with the lower compression head  ( last 2 digits '50) ..   its 3 speed is a bit of a mis-match of parts .  but loosely pinned as 3 speed Muncie.

so then the block  all the info I can find between the distributor and the crankcase breather is a "M" in a half inch square.     no other id marks

am I looking in the right place?.  I am under the impression the block number should be behind the engine mount  between the distributor and the crankcase breather

hoping someone can help out

Thanks Al
