Last Sunday on my way back from a car show the car started sputtering and then no more fuel delivery...the fuel filter was dry and no matter what I tried to do nothing was happening (CAA membership very useful)... I thought fuel pump... so yesterday I went and found the correct fuel pump, installed it and still nothing... changed the fuel filter...
Fuel is coming in from tank no problem... I thought I didn't position the rod in the fuel pump correctly so disassembled it and reinstalled it....
I even took the carb out and changed the diaphragm... tried and tried again still nothing...
engine is 327 ci , Holley 650 cfm carb...
Have I forgotten something?
Last resort, U-Haul and go to Morris t the local Chevy dealership...
You can pull the pump and check if the rod is moving up and down when someone cranks it. If not, likely the fuel pump lobe on the cam is wiped out.
For the record, there is a bolt hole in the front of the block you can use to hold the rod up while you change pumps. Just gently tighten the bolt against the rod with the rod "up" and it will stay while you change the pump.
How have you confirmed delivery from the tank is fine?
I'll have all my spies watching for a U Haul headed this way. You won't likely make it past the Ontario/Manitoba border anyway...

Check all the lines and hoses between the tank and pump. This is the suction side so if a hose is cracked open or line rusted through, the pump will suck air not fuel. To check, pressure up the tank with air. This will push fuel up the line and cause a leak in the bad spot. If no leaks lines are good. Check and see if fuel is at pump inlet then. If so and won't run it has to be pump related. And it wouldn't be the first bad part out there either. Finding more and more bad parts every year.

if not sucking air then it almost sounds like the lobe on the cam is worn off, I have never seen that happen. If that is the case then just get a electric fuel pump and problem is solved the easiest and cheapest way.
