Canadian Pontiac Wheels? Same as Chev?

Hey guys.

Quick question - as I understand it the 50s Canadian pontiacs are based on chev bodies/frames rather than the US pontiacs which had longer noses, different chassis with big X member etc.

Does that also mean a 51 - 53 Canadian Pontiac would run the same wheels as a 51 - 53 Chev? Ie. 15x5, 5x4.75 stud?

The short version is that my 'hot rodded' Pontiac Chieftain now runs '52 Chev rims and I'd love to run Pontiac dog dish/poverty caps. The US Pontiac rim clips are very different but the Canadian ones may be an option??

Thanks!

you'll have to run cheby rims , and canadian pontiac dog dish.. it is my understanding as well .. the wheel nubs that hold the cap are different between chevy and american pontiac.. so I've been told.

Here's an ad I found on CL in L.A.

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/pts/4575907098.html

For what it's worth there are 4 wheels for sale (wants $225 US) . The pics show the clips for a dog dish but I know you can't put a full size US wheel disc on a Cdn. rim.

Maybe this Chieftain had Chevy rims? not sure!

OK - found the same ad in another place with different info. -I guess the rims might be Chevy.

Would not  Caprice 77-89 and S10 15 inch rims fit   and have correct hub cap bumps?

Thanks guys.

50sedandelivery - those are 5 on 5 which are the same as stock US pontiac wheels.
Chevs are 5 on 4.75 which I'm hoping is also the case for Canadian Pontiacs.
The dog dish clips might also be the giveaway. US pontiac only have 3 clips which poke through a slot in the rim, whereas Chevs have 5 held on by a rivet.

To save confusion, my Pontiac only takes chev wheels as it has a Jag front end and a Holden rear.
Thanks!

Ok, I'll rephrase!
Can anyone who has a Canadian 51 - 53 Pontiac (Pathfinder?) tell me what the stud pattern is on their car please?

15" wheels are the original size. The 14" didn't appear on Chevrolet & Pontiac until 1957.

I can't state this as a fact but I have been told in 57 they came in both 14 & 15.

Vern I do not mean to be contentious but it was a Big Deal in 57 when they went to 14" and the model specs for 57 Canadian Pontiacs says:

57.jpg

Sorry no option for 15", 57 was 14" only. Canadian and American.

Although since the car in question was sold with 14" (as was my 56, much modified over the years) one has to wonder, why did they make the drums so small and the wheels so large, eh?

And I put 15" wheels on my 66 Chevelle (factory delivered with 14" only) over the years, as long as the bolt pattern fits and the wheels clear the brakes, seems to me like it is personal choice, eh?

(Carl1 I know you are watching so give me extra credit for the ehs, eh?)

Dave

Well, if one were to nit pick, 1957 Chevys were available with 15 x 6 wheels, 6 bolt style, as they were part of the newly released stock car package.

Thanks

I know for a fact they are different on a 1949 Canadian Pontiac and a us.I bought a set of the us sombrero hub caps for my Canadian 49 fleetleadear and guess what, they don't fit,not even close. My car came from the factory with the dog dish hubcaps.I knew our cars are based a lot of the us chevies but would have never thought there was that much difference between a us chevy and a us Pontiac.
