My Dad has decided to sell his 63 SS Vert. He has owned the car since 1984. We restored it about 14 years ago and rebuilt the front end, rear suspension, new TH350 with shift kit, new paint, new interior, new top etc. The suspension was converted to 5 lug and wagon springs used on all four corners with a factory sway bar.
However, we reused the 327 that was in it but it only lasted for about 6 months. The car sat for the next 13 years, sometimes covered, sometimes not, sometimes garaged, sometimes not, but has been in a garage for the last six years.
We just installed a new 350 to replace the 327. We also just installed a new radiator, new gas tank, new hoses, battery and cables, rebuilt carb, new fuel pump, and more to go with the new engine. The trans has about 4,000 miles on it and the engine has about 100 miles on it. Exhaust is 2.5 inches with Flowmasters. The folding top assembly had been restored right before we got it and all top metal pieces repainted and detailed. The car was repainted a deep Maroon with Dark Grey seats and carpet and a Maroon top. Even the spatter paint in the trunk was Maroon flecked. Dad fabbed a firewall support bracket that's in the trunk and just needs to be bolted back on. Wheels are 15 inch Centerlines.
The car is in great shape and runs good. Still needs some tuning and I don't think the alternator is charging.
Unfortunately, the paint did not hold up as well as the rest of the car. It is cracking in some areas and chipped on all four corners of the hood. There is no material rust in the car but there is some bubbling in the paint on the lower driver's side quarter. The trunk has some scale but is solid. No rust in the subframe, rockers or anywhere else.
This is a great, solid car that we've had for 30 years, but its time to pass it along to a new caretaker. Here are a couple pics and a link to many more.
