Instrument Cluster Heads Up

Been looking for a instrument cluster with a tach and I had a friend parting out a 79 Trans Am so I took my gauge cluster(bucket) and his was a perfect match with mine size wise , length, height, etc and it mounted inside my dash perfect and the tach wiring is independent of the plug in back so 1 wire to 12v 1 to tach on hei dist and wow it works. rewiring other things, blinkers, high beam dash lights were a little challenging but 75% of the wiring was the same color code( I used the trans am wiring harness for back of cluster and instead of cutting wires I just removed terminals as they were the same design and popped them into correct spot) and all is working. Oil and temp gauge and clock all are mounted into cluster and work but speedo on trans am was only 100 mph so I used mine that went to 120 mph( another perfect fit)

. Now the gas gauge and volt gauge are separate from cluster so I moved my heater/ac controls down to were the radio was(made sure all wires hoses etc would reach first/ no problem) and installed the gas/volt gauge were the heat/ac control was so it was parallel to the other gauges, now it took a little modifying and tweaking but i have it to the point with finishing it up. I also removed ash tray and that is where my radio will go because but I don't need it.

I also got the center console and shifter out the trans am and removing bench seats to add bucket seat.

I know some people want there car all original and understand but I like modifying to look up to date and different. FYI if anybody is interested

While out fixing cracks and getting rid of the awful burgundy color/ blacking it out also got the trans am shaker scoop so hood is getting cut

Wish you had asked I have a box full of these clusters. I use the 160 MPH Trans Am Speedo in my Lemans. There is a lot of parts interchangeability with Firebird and LeMans of this vintage. The picture below was posted on another web site about 6 years ago showing the speedo swap. The LeMans/GTO tachs and Trans Am tachs go to 8000 rpm other models don't go this high, so as a result the tachs are referred to as an 8000 rpm tach. LeMans/GTO also have a small GEN light by the 5000 mark, Firebird tachs don't have that. You can still use a Firebird tach but you just wouldn't have a monitor for that function. Looking forward to seeing your Shaker hood !
