1969 to 1970 interchangability

Aside from the obvious nose, hood, trunk and rear bumper what other differences or parts will not interchange between the 1969 and 1970 full size CDN Pontiac?

This is recognizing some of the trim differences between Parisienne, Laurentian, Strato Chief and 2+2.

69 & 70 are somewhat similar, but what specifically are you looking for?   I pretty much know every nut, bolt and screw on a 70, and now that I've taken a 69 apart I'm pretty familiar with that year too.    As you may have seen in my posts, I'm putting a 69 Parisienne chassis under a 70 Parisienne.

Re the interior, the dash pads are very similar, and I've made a 69 work in a 70, and I'm sure the reverse can work as well.   The seats are basically the same, but the door panels are different.

I believe instrument clusters are the same except one year is grey, the other is black.

i used a 69 caprice for a donor for parts for my 70 2+2 rag and except for the obvious everything was interchangeable. i replaced the complete floor and used chev floorpans, the rear kicks up was the only difference. i also used a american catalina dash pad the rear bumper was also american.

70 uses a throttle cable, 69 a linkage.

That's actually a mid-year change on the 70 models.   Early 70 models used linkage, late 70 models used a throttle cable.  For turbo 400 cars, that moved the kick-down switch.  Early 70 models with linkage the kickdown switch was mounted on the carb, late 70 models the kickdown switch moved to be under the dash.

Another mid-year change on the 70 models was the Astro-Vents.  Early 70 models the nozzles were chrome, late 70 models the nozzles were black with only chrome around the edge.   69 Astro-Vents the nozzles were chrome, but had a thumbwheel on one of the shutters.

I'm not sure about this one, but I think another mid-year change on the 70 models was a support rod extending down to the middle of the bottom of the dash pad.  I've seen it on a handful of cars that happened to be late model year builds.

I can't speak to that, but FYI, there is a full glass list sticky on the main page under "Library".

I could have sworn the convertible rear quarter glass was different between 69 & 70 but I can't argue with the GM parts book sheet.

It's the door glass that doesn't interchange 69/70

I may have been thinking convertible & coupe rear quarter glass doesn't interchange.

69 had Dark Blue instruments, 70 is Black
69 uses a pushbutton glovebox lock, 70 has turn style
69 uses a brushed aluminum applique on the instruments, but 70 is woodgrain
69 uses chrome dash vents, 70 uses black

That's just from memory 30 years ago crawling around looking for uncut dashboards every time my car stereo got stolen as a kid... I'm sure there are more authoritative lists!

Seat upholstery pattern is different I think - but what does it mimic? There were no Impala buckets in 1970!

Cool, I did not know that was a mid-year change.

I've noticed on American big Pontiacs that later 69 cars and all 70 cars had an extra steel brace on the left of the radio to stabilize the dash cluster. The ones without it are noticeable on rough roads, the cluster jiggles around. Also some late 69's also had a steel plate to reinforce the top edge of the cluster, to prevent warping, it worked but they crack instead.

My 69 Laurentian had that brace. I inadvertently left it out when reinstalling my cluster and you are correct- the cluster would shake on bumpy roads.

Ditto on '64 Parisiennes.

As much as I like the look of 69's on the outside that 69-70 dash was a disgrace compared to the older ones, cheap plastic and silver paint that warped and snapped compared to the beautiful dashes seen in older Pontiacs that were replete with real chrome and wide swaths of woodgrain. In fairness to Pontiac all GM's even Cadillacs in that era got those cheap bland looking dashpads.
