why are the centre caps always missing. Back in the late 60's when rally wheels first started to show up it seemed the tire changers never replaced the centre caps ?? Maybe Carl has an answer to this. ----- or ??
90 kph @ 2100 o.d. trans or low gears? Just learning 3.55@ 1to1 2800rpm @90. 4 is four barrel, 2 is duel exhaust, can't remember what the other 4 stands for? 4 speed?
442 = four barrel, 4 speed and duals.......originally in '64 that was a 4 speed man's transmission,
back in the '80's it was automatic.....probably 200 4R.
Had a new one in '87, nice to drive but no mojo......mine had an Olds engine and it was gutless.

Back in 86 Motor Trend did a comparison test of the Monte Carlo SS, Buick Grand National and Olds 442.
The verdict was that the 442 with Olds 307 had no business being in the comparison test. it had a 0-60 time of 10 seconds and a quarter mile in excess of 17 seconds. Both the Monte Carlo and Grand National 7 second 0-60 machines with quarter mile times in the low 15's, The Grand national somewhat quicker than the SS. In the overall Ratings the Monte Carlo SS was first choice.
Having said all that I always thought the Olds 442 was a nicer car than the other two in terms of quality and perception and head turning ability.
