It is Dave, and it drives great. Goes everywhere except yesterday when Barrie got 8 in. of snow. There where not many 4 sp cars built in 1964. I ordered a 425 hp custom sport in 1964 and have been told they only made 2 of them back then. I think the important thing is how many are left and still running and I'm sure there are not many left.

IMG_1851.JPGIMG_1968.JPGGood question, MoboMac. I have owned my '64 CS convertible since 1975 and still do not know the correct answer to your question. An article in a magazine called "Canadian Classics" (June 2001) suggests that there were about 120 1964 CS convertibles with the factory 4 speed. Available engines were the 327/250 or 300hp and 409/340, 400 or 425hp. Nothing is mentioned about CS hardtops. I am acutely aware of the fact that one cannot believe everything one reads, especially in magazines. I do, however, agree with Magician40 when he says that "the important thing is how many are left and still running." Maybe someone on this site has the correct answer.

fellow's father in Belleville bought a 65 Custom Sport 327-250 4 speed (new)........years later (1980)  I would buy

that car from him and remember rebuilding the WCFB ......the 300hp had an AFB..........there was also 2 customers

at York Mills Pontiac in 1965......one a Strato Chief 409-400 4 speed and the other a 65 Custom Sport 409-400 4 speed,

no 425hp in '65..........

My 64cs is a 300hp car, M20, 3:55 rear end. Hey Brian how did u get the machine turning pattern on your dash and console. Your clear steering wheel is in excellent condition.

Looks very similar to an American 63/64 Chevrolet dash

Thanks, Brian, and good eye, George. As you both likely know, the original '64 console was a smooth, aluminum insert which, to the best of my knowledge, is not reproduced. In an effort to keep some semplance of originality, I ordered the engine turned aluminum one for a '64 Impala 4 speed from Impala Bob's for around $70.00. (It is real aluminum.) I removed the original and found the new one to fit perfectly. To avoid having to repaint the greyish colored dash and try to keep the fine chrome-like lines, and also match my console, I ordered a few feet of the stick on engine turned aluminum from a place called Metro Restyling. I am happy with the look and the quality of both. I simply made a pattern to fit my dash and removed and replaced all the control knobs. There was quite a discussion on this site earlier this year regarding wood grain versus smooth consoles and such. Brian, I do belieive you joined in the discussion too and explained how you finished your wood grain console in your '64CS. Your console looks great, too. By the way, did you repaint the section behind all of the knobs, etc? You also did a super job on your tachometer. From earlier posts, you may have read about my 396 stroker DART engine ,500 h.p. which I had custom built for my '64. I am looking forward to installing the rest of my interior which I purchased from NOS.

If they DID offer a 4 speed in 62....it will likely show that in your owners manual......shift pattern, etc.

No owner's manual. Came with trunk full of parts and partially full paint cans from 10-15 years ago paint job. Not even a manual in the parts car. I seem to have a bumper crop of headlight bezels, however !!  Maybe I can swap someone a headlight bezel for a 62 Parisienne owner's manual. biggrin

Thanks for the nice comments Brian. My lower dash panel is all original, and I will be adding some teak trim to it this winter so it will match the console. The tach. is a replacement Auto Meter with a white face. I replace my stock unit because these are more accurate with my HEI distributor. The new Tach. fit perfectly in the original housing. By the way the chrome shifter ball was originally on my 64cs 409 that I had bought new. I had kept it all these years, who knew it would find a home in another 64cs.

Wow, Brian! You are ambitious. I was fortunate to have another dash to use as a template for my engine turned aluminium. I was afraid to hook up my factory tach to my HEI incase I ruined it, but I took the gamble and find that it works just fine, albeit I agree the new ones are more accurate. I do have a new chrome shifter knob and vowed that it is going to be the last thing I put on my car when I finish my interior. Say, have you ever pursued the '64 Custom Sport headlight bezels that are painted the same color as the car? I imagine that a set of these would be hard to come by now. I know of a few people who switched to chrome over the years because they thought the chrome looked better than paint. Have you ever had your Cs appraised?

I have the painted headlight bezels in my garage. The chrome ones are new so that's why they are on now, they look ok but I have a preference for the painted ones. My last appraisal was 3yrs ago $20,000 for Lant insurance. But like you our cars are priceless.

Just curious what the "re and re" procedure is on the tach.....does the top pad have to come off?

Yes to removing the top pad, then you can access the two nuts, it is a tight fit  I can't imagine doing it from the bottom?

when you remove the dash pad, if it has never been off, remember there are two speed nuts under the wiper cowl from the outside of the car.  cowl vent has to be removed first.
