67 beaumont dash instrument housing paint color

Can anyone tell me where I could find the paint code or buy a spray bomb of paint in the original color like the dash bezel insert shown below. It is the same color as the gauges, and I would like to repaint mine to original look. I have pretty much ran out of leads here and am hoping someone has managed to source this.  I should mention I did try to get a local auto supplier (Lordco) to do a color match but they said they needed a bigger sample area than what I was able to provide to get an accurate match.

 Your help is much appreciated!

Hi Barry - I read your Biography and your first 1967 Beaumont SD was loaded, with most rare options...neat !!
quote - Bought my first Beaumont (a 1967 SD) in 1972. I was the 2nd owner. It was Bolero Red with Black Vinyl Top. 396/350 HP. 400 THM transmission (column shift!). Factory Disc brakes, factory tach, bucket seats with head rests and bumper guards It also had a low fuel indicator light and an adjustable speed warning indicator.

I like to try and put a few in perspective, considering the 1967 Sport Deluxe is 1 of 451:
- I remember reading the 4 piston Factory Disc brakes option, on 40 of these Beaumont's / so on 1/10 of the Big Blocks.....40 of 451 ratio

Hope you don't mine me asking, but your former car brings up the rare of the rare:
Bolero Red.............................................x of 451 (stunning hardtop color)
bumper guards.......................................x of 451
head rests..............................................x of 451
low fuel indicator light..............................x of 451 (more in other models ?)
adjustable speed warning indicator.............x of 451
Factory Disc brakes.................................40 of 451

^^^^ Got any stats, I'd be most interested.
A former Beaumont collector (Ross Clarke, ON.) told me (mid 1980's) he only seen 2 of these ivory ball speedometers (ever).
- one was in a '67 SD and the other was the one he handed me from his parts bin...and I quickly purchased it, for my future Sport Deluxe

Also, I be interested in the correct dash paint, as well.

- I going to make a wild quess here: could the dash paint be the same color as on the lower recesses of the '67 only Beaumont rocker trim? (maybe that's been documented, somewhere)

 Thks...Larry

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. The 1964 GTO did not have a painted dash face. It had a chromed billet style face on it. So no luck there. I figured that someone here would have had this same issue at some point. I may end up just painting it flat black. I know the 67 GTOs had a woodgrain cover which looked alright too.

Hi Larry,

I have no idea how many 67 SD's had the options of the one I owned. I do know there were a couple of other ones around my area back then and they did not have the options that mine had. You might find out some of what you seek on this site.

Cheers,

Barry

How bad is your dash that you have to paint it out? Do you know any interior designers? They'd have a suitcase full of paint samples, you could pick the book that matches the closest, then match it to your stock dash...then have an automotive paint mixed off that sample... It would be a shame to paint it black.

 Hi ak

The dash had already been painted black when I bought the car. I've got the dash out right now so I was hoping to put it back to original. I can get a matching color made at General Paint, but can't get it in an aerosol can from them. I'll figure something out.

Go to a model store and have a look at Tamiya Color paint XF-50 Field Blue.
I brushed some on an old dash I had and it looked pretty close for a 64 anyway.
I was going to try a small air brush to see if it would spray ok. Haven't tried yet.

Just wondering if anyone had found if the XF-50 Field Blue was a good match or if there was another alternative.

You may not be able to buy it in aerosol cans but shouldn't you be able to go to NAPA or some paint supply store and have them put it an aerosol can for you? I have had paint done this way.

Was the 67 dash a different colour than the 66?

Hi Kevin, if I can help let me know. Is your dash the correct color now? I have a spare dash you can take to Rondex or wherever for a color match. I haven't compared the spare to mine to see if they're really close, or if one is more faded (I can do that this weekend). If you buy some field blue you can mail me a sample square and I can compare to my dash.

ak

Ps looking at x50 online it looks like a decent match, but it's hard to compare. Better than black either way.

Hello all. I'd forgotten all about this post from 2015! In my search I couldn't find the Tamiya X-50 Field blue, which I think is very close to original. The paint I could find was "Tamiya AS-3 Gray Green (Luftwaffe)" in small aerosol cans. (It's model airplane paint in the original colors used on WW2 planes.) It's pretty close to original and I am very happy with it. I found it at a Hobby store in Abbotsford, BC. I think either of these 2 Tamiya paints are very close.

My 66 dash has always been black. Is there a difference between the 66 and 67?
Thx in advance.

Tamiya XF50 Field Blue 81750

Color: Field Blue (XF-50) item # 81750
Tamiya acrylic paints are made from water-soluble acrylic resins and are excellent for either brush painting or air-brushing.

These paints can be used on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, plus all of the common model plastics.

The paint covers well, flows smoothly, and can be blended easily. Prior to curing, paint can be washed away with plain water.
When airbrushing make sure to use any of the following Tamiya thinners: 81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
X designated colors have a glossy finish while XF designated colors are flat finish.
The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
The paint can be also thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. Using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner will yield faster drying results and a harder finish.
For better paint brushing results use Tamiya Paint Retarder (87114) for a smoother brushstroke free finish.

Yes the AS3 item #86503 spray paint looks dam close also.

 Hey Andrew

I was just wondering if that color was close or not. When I restored my dash pad, I painted it the Landau black. Then I painted the instrument cluster black too. I'm not too concerned about the color but looking at the heater control it is that blue/grey color. So now I'm pretty close to putting the interior back together I thought maybe I'd paint it back to the other color. Might go down to Michaels and see what they have.

Thanks

Kevin

Hey addicted! - thank you so much!!!

Not sure how long it took you to find that paint match but I grabbed some from a model store and I think it looks great.

it is a bit flat so I did a coat of the XF50 Field Blue with a coat of X35 Semi Gloss Clear over top.

(I wonder if the XF50 is a Flat and you found just X50?)

I thought I would post some pictures so others could see the colour.

My dash housing had been painted black (previous owner) including the heater controls.

My housing had bad chrome and an extra hole for a manual choke as well - so I bought a replacement 67 housing from OPGI (it says the Parts Place on the back).

I needed to paint the heater controls to match.
