66 Beaumont engine ID

20150127_194857.jpgFor you numbers matching guys. What do the numbers on the pad of this 66 283 block mean, I am used to a 2 letter code that designates HP and such but there is just a string of numbers that don't match VIN or anything.

that is the block serial number I believe..  if you order the GM docs.. it will jive up with that.  it does not relate like the Suffix code you are looking forunfortunately..

that is what I think..

Got the documents from GM and the engine number does in fact jive with what I have so it is a numbers matching car. Unfortunately it is only a 283 and hard to press HP out of them.

Im surprised your documents show engine number, documents I've seen doesn't show engine numbers just engine size with model. 283s can produce 400hp

Right on, you got yourself a Conroy Beaumont. Pretty good they are adding engine numbers, they never use to.

I have GM documentation about the same vintage as yours and it shows engine number.Doesn't seem to be a standard.

It's possible the older cover sheet doc didn't have the engine code because they used to also provide a photocopy of the production line sheet from that day that included engine code, date of engine, key codes etc etc... Notice the newer docs from George say Pontiac, older docs do not...
