Lots of ground clearance and suspension travel, granny-gear-low trans, torquey at-low-speed motor, oversize knobby tires, they had it figured out back then ... same formula used today for rock climbers, eh?

The formula hasn't changed, just fine tuned. Probably the best option on that truck was a "No-spin"...

NAPCO conversion, I think 1960 was the first year for a factory built Chevy 4 wheel drive.
