RE: 1967 Parisienne mirrors

How did ya get the glass out? I've yet to find a way on 64-67 mirrors. For remote mirrors and non framed mirrors like rally mirrors, soaking them in mineral water dissolves the glue holding the glass. Like I say, I've yet to find a way to remove 64-67framed glass. Let us know your secret

My original had a thin, flat stainless wire retainer around the edge of the mirror itself. Sort of a large "C" clip if you were.

I just fished it out starting at the split, and it coiled right out of the slot. The mirror basically fell right out at that point.

It was a date coded mirror on my 67. The ball and socket was loose and the mirror would flop. I opened it up to see if I could tighten the socket up anyway. McGivered it somehow if I can remember.

The repop had the same retainer, and I learned that not all the reproductions do, and you should look for the ones with the ring, as they are of supposed better quality. Date coded mirrors are also available on their own.

Just like this below (67 Camaro shown)

Cheers,

Gotcha, thanks for sharing, good to know for future, now I can grab glass from pretty much any 65 GM and create a new mirror.

When I wanted to add a passenger side mirror to my 65CS I couldn't find any that were passenger side specific. So I bought a drivers side. When I went to install it in the corresponding position on the passengers side it wouldn't point properly. Instead of looking along the passenger side of the car I was looking out into the lane next to me. With a little ingenuity I came up with a way to be able to point it so that I looking along the passengers side of the car. I took a file and cut a slight groove into the shaft that leads out to the ball right where the head of the mirror was contacting the shaft. In other words I cut into the shaft so that I could pivot the head further. I chose to cut into the shaft versus filing the ball socket because the mirror head is chromed and I was afraid that if I touched it it rust would rust.
The mirror I got is from Ames and it is the one that appears at the beginning of this thread.

Well I think I solved the mirror problem I called Ames and ordered a drivers door operating mirror And a passenger door fixed mirror They are taking them to the show in Carlisle and will be there to pick them up. Far as they know the mirrors for the 1967 Catalina are the same as my 1967 Parisienne. Anyone know if this info is wrong? If you do please chime in before I purchase the wrong parts. Thanks
