The lowest production run of any year GTO, one year only body style and next to Zero reproduction parts. Sounds like an inviting project. It doesn't look that bad to me, though at $1500 it may become a parts car for someone else's restoration.
It's amazing how "blasted" that paint looks. Is that because of the red pigment paint? I know GM had red paint problems at times in the past.

It would make a nice new project for you Pascal. The car looks complete and unmolested and at a fair price. You could line up replacement panels on your upcoming trip. Barry
It would be nice to know for sure that it was an Oshawa car, that would make it one of 231 Canadian Poncho GTO's. It appears to be very original in terms of trim and all the right bits, even the grille emblem is there. GTO's didn't get wheel lip trim unless ordered so that impossible to find trim would not be part of a restoration on this one.
In Mississauga back in 1986 I saw a 73 GTO that looked almost identical to that car except that it had the optional beltline stripe. The stripe, black with red outlining pinstripes, ran from the point of the hood and back across the doors. It even had the original 455 C.I.D. decals on the front fenders, which had significant rust. That Medium Red was popular back in 1973. As I recall it was fade prone.

The '82 GM red was brutal also. A friend's brand new '82 Trans Am was faded (cloudy pink) within one year.

Most people did as well, as mentioned the lowest sales of any GTO ever even the '74 dressed up Nova did much better. These 73's were however known to be the best handling GTO (excluding the Holden's of recent production) and actually was named performance car of the year by a well known US publication.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I actually like them.
I don't mind them either...

While I do own one of the 231 Canadian built GTO's, curiosity is always in the back of my mind of how many of them are actually remaining. Going by a guestimate of 10%, that would probably be 23 or less Canadian built units.
As a kid at the age of about 13 back around 1976, a friend of mine's mother had a 1973 Sport Coupe Lemans with buckets and console and rally rims that I can remember admiring. When I was in my early 20's, I guess that is what attracted me to buy the same bodied car in GTO trim that I have today. Still loving it after 31 years of owning it.
Some people love them and others hate them. Each to their own.
I have only ever seen 3 Oshawa GTO's in person and I know of 5. Mike maybe you know more but I'd agree that the figure of 10% or less would be the survival rate.
I remember seeing a 1973 GTO when I was based in Trenton Ontario circa 1990, it was the same color and already suffering from cancer (rust), I wonder if it's still around that area ???
