Oh ok, power pacs, I've heard of them but don't know too much about engine "speed" equipment. Whats the difference between power pacs and fuelies? 1.94 & 2.02? Thought I had looked up the witches hat you call them identifing it as fuelie, I'm always open to learning, then what mark is on ends to identify fuelie? Thanks. The motor had the old canister style oil filter still bolted to it, motor looked like it could be rebuilt, wasnt seized, the cast iron 4bbl boat anchor intake lying on ground in front of car.
Chevy offered a Power Package shortly after the little V8 was born and this typically had a 4 bbl, dual exhaust and higher compression so its safe to say any 283 with 195 H.P. or more had Power Pack heads, including fuel injected engines. Around 1963 the base 283 used Power Pack heads and the H.P. rating increased to 195 and lasted until 1967. These were nice flowing heads with small valves and small combustion chamber, approx. 58 cc's.
The so called Fuelie heads were introduced on the 1962 Fuel Injected 327's but the basic head was carried over to all 327's with over 250 H.P. These were even better flowing than the Power Packs and typically had 62 or 64 cc's and either 1.94 intake valves and 1.5" exhaust or the famous 2.02" intake and 1.6" exhaust. 327's with 325 H.P. or more got the larger valves as well as the 1967-1969 Z28 302 and 1969-1970 350's with over 300 H.P. 1969-1970 heads had accessory mount bolt holes so this made the Camel Humps much thinner but still visible.
The cast iron 4 bbl intake is probably valuable to someone restoring an older model assuming it's a square bore.
The intake could make this engine a 220 H.P. 283 or 250 H.P. 327
I like those old style canister filters and will grab it the next time I find one !!
Thanks for the schooling Carl and Randy, now we all know, its good info to know. I got kicked out of mechanics class about day three lol true stuff, he didn't like it when I told him I drive a V8 not a lawnmower motor, ended up in band class lol. That motor doesn't sound like '66 then, the exhaust manifoldspart numbers 3749965 are coming back as 58-63 vette and bel air. I should have taken pictures of the casting numbers on the intake and block. They will be going on my L77, with edlebrock 4bbl intake and its original carb, dual exhaust, it should go ok, no?
Motor was probably transplanted, car wasa more door. Motor was complete minus carb, sitting lose on its mounts, had pan, oil canister, fan and spacer, original rad, the intake, really nice plain valve covers not a ding to be found, ya man, motor is worth saving.
I saw it there a couple weeks ago. I think the block itself was unique to the Nova's, as I think the way the dipstick goes in is unique to the front sump cars. If so, it may be worth a couple bucks.
Lots of nice stuff there, but too far away, and too heavy.
