Congrats Dave on the '40 Coupe - iconic eye candy / truly one of the Top10 car designs, of all time.

Back in the mid 1970, a business executive at work, sold his mint Southern 1967 Corvette to finance an in-ground pool for his wife.
- Years later, he told me "one of the biggest mistakes, he ever made in the car hobby"
- Vette $$ skyrocketed and when he went to sell his house, the pool investment had a low ROI...aka, he lost a good chunk of money.

I'm building a garage/shop right now, 1200 sq ft. and slightly bigger than our 1963 brick bungalow / luckily here, no one asks for a pool.

About 26 years ago, I sold my 66 GP 427 factory 4 speed to finance the purchase of a church organ for our home because my wife plays organ. I miss the car but I have never regretted making that sacrifice for the greatest woman in the world. Dave, no worries, you have it made, you get a cool old car AND a pool, how could you go wrong???!!!

It must be a "late" model 40, it seems to have the 12 volt Delco system that was optional....!!!

Well Dave, if you were to buy a Ford, in my opinion you have bought the right one. When I was a kid in school and tried to sketch a car this is always the one I tried to do. Have fun with it.

Awesome!
Always has been and always will be my favorite pre war car. Just the way I would want one, right down to the red wheels with caps and rings.

Pretty hard to miss an alternator on a flathead!

And for the record, I too think flatheads are the coolest looking engine ever...

Congratulations very nice 40 Ford. One of my all time favorite designs from ford. How ironoc you just bought that Dave as my brother purchased an all original 1940 Ford 2 door coach with 21,000 miles just a month ago.It came with a few nos parts and I will check if any of the parts are coupe specific as I know some interior mouldings he recieved are for a deluxe model not the base model.

Too Cool! I'm trying to find some pic's of my Uncle's 40 Tudor sedan.

The coupe is an iconic 20th century design in metal.

I have loved 1940 Fords for nearly 45 years. That was the first year for the column shift. First year for the new sealed beam headlights, plus they used those cool Chevron tail lights. A flathead under the hood, but an improved 24-stud 1953 version, score!

You have a coupe, not to be confused with the larger Tudor Sedan. I wanted a coupe, a pickup or a Sedan Delivery. The one below looks lie what I have wanted since about 1972.

Ha Carl , I am up to no good here! Flat  motors can be used for so many things, like say A Coffee Table , or maybe a Boat Anchor  hehe!. I had a couple of 47/48's.  Stock  they are fun for say 45 minutes. But really the neatest sounding on start up and some with the right pipes. I always hated trying to keep up and the heating problems. Heres my 39- Ford SVO powered -Do you remember this one.lowfen1.jpg

Dave, did you come all the way up north to buy it and then found out it was misrepresented?

Fortunately, no - I found out just before the trip - and since I booked flights (normally non-refundable) through Travelocity, I was able to cancel them and get refund.

The automotive industry is full of unethical people. Mamy times I have went to look at cars that were extremely overstated. When I bought my 55 unseen I stressed to the owner do not tell me what is good about the car I want to see the bad things. I asked for email pictures of all the bad areas and any heavy wear marks in the interior such as rips and frays. His only question to me before compling to my request was "do you have any money?' I knew were all the common bad areas on the tri 5 era cars are located so I requested pics in those areas. Once I recieved the pics and studied them carefully and had the owner on the phone asking questions  I made my offer and he accepted it. Too bad this deal did not work out but they will be more 40 Ford coupes becoming available over time. With our Canadian dollar so low just keep an eye out for a lot of Canadian cars going back home to the US this winter. All the new car dealers here are shipping their trade ins to brokers who are importing the vehicles to the US and getting US dollars for the cars.
