1968 2+2, factory 427 four speed - Kijiji Calgary

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/calgary/1968-pontiac-2-2-factory-427-4-speed/1109526467?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

$50,000

1968 Pontiac 2+2

Factory options

427 390 hp (L36)
4 speed Muncie (M-20)
Positraction
Dual exhaust
Front disc brakes (twin piston caliper)
Heavy duty front and rear suspension
White (parchment) interior with buckets and console.
Vinyl top (black)
Power windows, steering, brakes, tilt wheel.

1968 Pontiac 2+2 (Canadian Pontiac) Factory 427, 4 speed. Fully documented from General Motors as one of 29 made with the 427 in 68. No breakdown is available on the 4 speed option but its likely that less than half were equipped this way, making it a very, very rare car indeed. Other factory options include HD suspension, front disc brakes, dual exhaust, posi rear, white vinyl buckets, power windows, steering, brakes, rear defroster, tilt wheel, tinted windows, console, etc, etc.
This is a super rare, super fast piece of Canadian muscle car history. I have owned the car for the past 30 years and its always been garage stored.

Great car....however
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the 68s still had the short water pump and alternator on the drivers side.

It's about 3 miles from me, but I've never seen it before.  Yes, 1968 alternator should be on driver side.

To me the alternator and all that looks era correct, but is that air cleaner? It looks very similar to the 69 427's I had.

Oh, now I get it, sorry. I thought that picture was from his ad but you posted it to show how it should look!

Yes, something has certainly been changed on it now that I look at the ad pictures.

Interesting, I wonder what the purpose was in putting the 69 stuff on there? Sure can't argue with the rarity..... I am betting he is wrong in his guess of 50% on how many M20's, I bet it is less than 25% of them.

Neat car, regardless of what is right or wrong on it, but I will say I'm disappointed that I often see cars for sale asking for premium prices that don't have the details correct.  If you are going to ask for large coin, at least make sure it's right (and dust off the engine compartment).

Just the right amount of dust on that engine.

I inquired about the alternator on passenger side and tall water pump.  The owner replied that it's not a numbers matching car.

That explains the wrong intake manifold also. 68 intake had heater hose in different location . That one is for 69 and newer.so nice rare car with non original motor . That's ok but price imay be a little to high in that case.

I think he gave a clue it has a 1969 engine as 1968 would be a 385 H.P. Jet Flame !!!

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the intake is a 69.  I've asked what vintage the engine is.

Just as a bit of a comparison, a year or two ago there was an absolutely gorgeous 68 Impala SS 427 4 speed for sale in Winnipeg. I think it has 18,000 original miles on it, totally original car with an asking price somewhere around 50K, or maybe a bit more as I recall.

Carl ... the low mileage 68 SS427 is still for sale ..... I believe he wants $50-60  USD.

There is also a motherload of NOS parts for the same year as well.

Owner indicates the engine is a 427, just not numbers matching (not certain on vintage, if it's a true 427 casting).  Intake is a 1969 version, and he indicates the heads are ported & polished open chamber.
