Our plan was to build it as a 409 powered street/strip car, but we recently got a rare 63 Z-11 409 engine that really ought to go into a 63 Impala, so I think that's what we'll be building instead.

Looking beyond the multi-coloured exterior I have to say that it looks like a nice solid candidate for restoration. It even has a set of 1966 Canadian Pontiac wheel covers Black exterior with red interior is choice!

Will it be fast like your 61? Are you working on the aluminum 409 much? Don

We finally got around to bringing the aluminum engine from the 61 Pontiac in to the machine shop. We blew a head gasket and torched out the top of the liners between two cylinders. It'll be back up and running in time for the first race in the spring. Better head gaskets should prevent that problem from re-occurring.
The heads from the Z-11 engine have the potential to make pretty good power. We thought about using them on a fresh 481 ci shortblock that we've got, but after thinking it over we figured that it might be smarter not to risk hurting them on a high revving engine.
Right now the plan is to build that Z-11 engine to about 550 to 600 hp then drop it into a 63 Impala. The car would make a good street /strip car capable of running close to 11.50 in the 1/4 mile. Running faster than 11.50 would require a roll bar and other safety equipment. I should add that it would probably have 4.11 gears and a regular four speed, so it wouldn't be the kind of car you'd drive on a long trip. It would be more suited to just the occasional trip to the cruise night and things like that.
I looked yesterday and noticed that he had just re-listed the car, but I looked for it again today and the listing was gone. That's probably just as well, I've got enough to do around here without bringing home new projects.
