Radiator for 1967 427 4 speed car

I want to keep most things as original as possible on my 427 4 speed car- especially under the hood. I have (hopefully) attached a couple pics of the rad. It looks like it might be the original, based on pics I've seen on this site of other cars. I've had a few 427 Impalas of the era in the past and they all came with the Harrison 4 row core rads. What would my car have come with originally? Like I said, I want to stay correct, but not at the expense of an engine that overheats. The plan is to rebuild the 427 with all correct carb, intake, heads, exhaust manifolds etc for a correct look. I will have it done professionally and with some modern improvements like lower friction internals and some work on the heads to improve flow. So nothing crazy as far as performance upgrades. But back to the point. I want to keep things cool and as original as possible. I understand a proper 4 row rad for a 4 speed car is not cheap nor easy to come by, and that there are also good repop rads out there. My rad is 2" wide at the top. In needs to be re cored and I have a buddy who can do that for the time being. But when I restore- what is recommended to look "Stock" and provide care free summer driving? Thanks.

For what its worth today's products are far superior to 1967. 3 core aluminum High Efficiency provides substantially more cooling capacity than old 4 core. I just had mine re-cored with 3 core high efficiency aluminum, big block rarely if ever gets up past 190 degrees. If you go this route it will look original since tanks will be the original.

Have a look at my before and after photos. It was $360 iat a reputable shop in Toronto.

Thanks Ray. I had a hunch the new rads with (almost) stock look would be the best option. Do you happen to think the rad in my pics would be original to a big block car? It sure seems small. Also, with new rads, would I need to specify it as for a 4 speed car? Something tells me I wouldn't. I'm not sure what the difference is between auto/manual rads even is, but again- the more correct looking the better!

The automatic rads have a cooler in the bottom tank and two female thread ports for the cooler lines to go to, so the difference is visual. To be authentic you would certainly want to have a 4 speed only rad.

That sure looks like the original radiator. The biggest rad you could get in 67 is a 3 core, no 4 cores in 67. That one is probably a large 2 core. I have a couple BB 67 4 speed rads and they look the same. Is the ID tag still on the rad? Should be by the upper rad hose.

Just to be clear a re-core with new material keeps your original Harrison Tanks, so all you do is pull radiator and take it to the shop. If its a manual trans rad now you don't have to worry about anything because the tanks will be reused maintaining originality of rad which will now be built with 2015 technology. My photo illustrates the questions raised, remember my 70's rad is oriented with tanks on sides your 60's rad top and bottom.

I checked and no tag anywhere near the top rad hose. I did however notice a code on what may be a bracket on the driver side. Parts Catalog lists part 3007704 as "1966/ All AT with 396 engine- exc HD rad- exc factory installed car cooling". It also lists same part number as TH with 390 HP 427 engine. So I'm taking from this that the rad is a 1966 rad for TH400 car with big block and no A/C. That might make sense, since notes I have, made by some owner previous to Elroy and I, state that a 396 and TH400 was pulled out of a Grande Parisienne and put in the car at some point. So that rad could have very likely come from the same GP. The 396 in the car has casting #3855961 and coded T1220IAR with no VIN stamp BTW. This might be a valuable block (1966 4 speed) to somebody here when I put the correct 351 casting 427 back in the car. But back to the rad- looks like I should have rad part number 3012411 to be entirely correct (since my car didn't come with HD radiator). Assuming I'm correct, that rad might be hard to find? There are other hard to find parts I need, and since I'm AT LEAST a year away from being prepared (in terms of finances, expertise and parts) to start a full restoration- I might as well keep my eyes and ears open. From what I've learned here so far, it would seem the best of all worlds solution is the correct 3012411 rad re cored with high efficiency aluminum core. One more thing..... The 04 above the part number- would that be a date code?

I had mine re-cored for about the same price on PEI. Looks good also.

For my 70 Parisienne that I put the LS6 in, I used a 4 core radiator from a big block a/c car.  I had it recored with a 3 core high efficiency a couple years ago, and I think it was $600 - $700.  I had asked for it to be done as a 4 core (same as on my 70 2+2 convert), but they don't do that anymore.   It has the large top and bottom tanks required to be a 4 core.

I have a 3 core in my 70 Laurentian, it has the same top and bottom tanks as a 2 core.   So if you are looking to have yours recored, I suspect you may be able to go to 3 core high efficiency with your stock tanks.
