Cool picture. I can see it's a 327, dual exhaust and a powerglide.

I wonder if you had to get a 300 horse to get the duals, or if you could order it on either one of the 327's.

I just looked up a 1963 sales brochure and it mentioned dual exhaust on 250-300 H.P. 327's and 400 -425 H.P. 409's.
No mention of exhaust on 283 or 340 H.P. 409.
Very cool picture, 1963's are one of my favorites!!

Thanks
Randy

.......both 250 and 300 had dual exhaust.........the 250 dual exhaust exited behind the rear wheel and the

300 exited at the extreme rear corner just under the bumper (same for Pontiac and Chev) .........

I was an apprentice mechanic on these cars, 18 years old and noticed every little difference,

buddy in East End Toronto had a red/red 63 Impala 300 and his exhaust exited at the tip of the rear bumpers.....

....HOWEVER - all 409 cars (Pontiac and Chev)  exited behind the rear wheel

Not sure on the 327 engine Carl. when I blow up the picture it looks like letters above the symbol, like 409 maybe. Have a look.

Is that ever sweet, thanks for sharing Raj. I agree that the 63 Chev is one of the sweetest looking cars ever, especially the grand Impala.

It's a bit tough to see and maybe I have a good imagination but to me this looks like just 327 flags and also like a 327 valve cover and rams horn manifold.

What do you guys think?

Good info!!!

Does this make it a 300 H.P.?? It looks like the tail pipe is yet to be installed?? Old eyes.

Thanks

Randy

It has a tailpipe exiting just behind the rear wheel, the tip is kind of pointing toward you. The exiting under the bumper would have just had a very mild turndown, not straight out the back with the tips point straight back and level.

The very rare RPO Z11 1963 Impalas came with single exhaust!!

It looks like many duals had resonators in the tail pipe.

Thanks

Don

 .....Hey Don

pretty sure that is a straight pipe waiting it's extension piece to the rear hence a 300 hp car....

....250 hp cars had the pipe turn down considerably at the rear wheel and were one piece from the muffler.........

if you blow the pic up you can see a reduced end ready to accept an extension and on the rear of the frame may be

a hanger bracket

I hadn't noticed the resonator before but it's obvious when you blow up the pic. I don't think I've ever seen a factory resonator on a 63.

Maybe he is holding the control to drop the body on the frame.
