1977 Pontiac LeMans GT A muscle car that nobody else has. I've gone to tons of car shows on the island and never seen ONE of these. They were relatively small number production(less than 14,000). Chev 350, 4bbl, with 3spd grip-shift trans. Runs great, and is driveable. Its mostly been sitting for the time that I've had it, but does get started regularly and driven around the block. The front is in good shape, not rusty. The rear quarters/ fenders have standard GM rust as does the floor pan. This is a true, end of an era muscle car. Its essentially complete and unmolested.
I bought it with strong intentions, but my mortgage is stronger.

The factory V8 offering for the 1977 Canadian-market LeMans was a Chev 305, unless it's since been replaced. This would be a challenging restoration for an amateur, as quarters are not reproduced; however floor pans are available. The dashpad will be a pricey fix as well, unless you can find an uncracked one somewhere.
The price is about right on this one - I wonder what color it was originally...

Hey Bob, The Canadian Sales brochure shows the engine line up for 1977 Canadian LeMans as:
250 6 cylinder
305 2bbl V8
350 4bbl V8 ( It was the LM1 170 HP )
All above were Chevrolet engines prior to GM Corporate in 1977
Safari only 400 V8 which was the Pontiac prior to GM Corporate in 1977.

Not much, tu tone paint, GP dash, RTS, rally gauges, sport mirror's and rally II wheel's. I had the chance while living in Abbotsford BC to buy one from the scrape yard. It was missing the rad and air cleaner, should have paid the $250 for it. At that time too many car's and no space for it. It was silver and gray, bucket's, driver's power, a/c, p.window's, 8 track, was a very restorable car. Also had the p.sunroof, they are a really nice looking package. This one look's just like any other LSC and I'd want documentation proving it's a "GT". Find a nice LSC and build your own, not very hard.

I got a quick driving course in my parents 77 Sport Coupe. Dad had his brain aneurysm and I just had my beginner's license. Mom was too distraught to drive and I had to drive her back and forth to the hospital - in the winter! Once I was fully licensed I put a lot of miles on this car. Loved cruising in it a it didn't look like "daddy's car"!
Seeing this '77 GT for sale and posting engine uses in another thread I looked at what the package had, I realized that the GT was only available on LeMans Sport. One feature of the LeMans Sport was a wider tail light treatment from the LeMans. See below. This being the case I'm now wondering why the car for sale has LeMans style tail lights and not LeMans Sport and I'm also wondering the same for the Can Am. Looks like while the GT and Can Am were based on the Sport Coupe the wider tail lights were deleted. Anyone?

I am assuming the rear spoiler and Can Am ID made it necessary to delete the wider LeMans Sport tail light.

This car would have originally had GT ID on the rear panel so I'm assuming the ID placement required deletion of LeMans sport tail lights.
Interesting tidbit about thectaillights. 77 was a great styling year. The front end made it look wider. Always wanted one since I first saw them at Hogans on the Danforth.
Wonder what ever happened to the Can Ams that were left over after the spoiler molds broke ? Did they get the shaker from the factory or was it part of the spoiler deal?
1977 PONTIAC Le Mans GT -White with blue strips 2 door ,automatic.has a 305 motor.White leather seats.stick shift. bucket seats in front this car is a real classic, and a nice original unmolested beauty, you will not find many of these left in good original condition has been well cared for had two previous owners since new and last one was a mechanic.This is to my Knowledge an all original classic with 230,000 Km's on it.
the following is some information I found online about this CanAm style Le Mans GT
The 1973 to 1977 Pontiac Colonnades are best known for models such as the Grand Am (1973-1975), the GTO (1973) and the Can Am (1977). However, throughout this generation of the LeMans line, with the exception of 1976, a GT option was available. While production numbers for the GT option are not available to our knowledge, 1973 to 1977 LeMans GT's seem to be hard to find today. If you have one of these unique Pontiac Colonnades you are indeed priviledged.

The plant in Pontiac MI built the Can Ams (white LSC's with GP dash and a 400 or 403), then they were shipped to Jim Wanger's Motortown for conversion (shaker, stripes, spoiler). The ones queued up for conversion when the Can Am production was cancelled were sold off as-is (plain hood, no spoiler, etc) through the dealers. I forget how many there were of those, but one popped up on eBay a year or two ago - pretty easy to identify, as a conversion car would have the W72 (higher perf) 400 or a 403.

Just so no one's confused, it's a mishmash of parts - while it might be an original GT, it has a Can Am spoiler on it and a Grand LeMans tail panel stuck on top of the spoiler, with a GT decal hiding the GLM script. Not original or factory.

So Bob, any insight on the tail light question, seems to me that the Sport Coupes use for Can AM and GT had Sport Coupe wider tail lights deleted, can't imagine I'm the first person to bring this up. Looks obvious to me that on Can Am the wider light could not be used because of spoiler design and Can Am ID. Did the W72 spec'd out cars that were not converted have standard LeMans Sport Coupe wider tail lights ?
And another thing, Where / How would someone get that Can Am spoiler as seen in use on that mish-mass GT for sale?

Hey Ray, I think you're right on your thoughts. The Can Am spoiler is at least 1/4" thick at the bottom of the trunk lid, and if you put either the LSC or GLM trim/reflectors on top of the spoiler surface, they'd be sitting higher than the taillights - not on the same plane. (Hope that explanation makes sense.)
There's a pic in 'Glory Days' - Jim Wanger's book - of a field of 77 Sport Coupes waiting for Can Am conversion (Edit: Uh, my memory isn't as good as I thought). I'll see if I can find time to scan the pic.
You can buy a used Can Am spoiler pretty easily on eBay, they come up relatively frequently considering they are rare and not reproduced.
