1968 Parisienne BB

http://www.jensendealerships.com/used/Pontiac/1968-Pontiac-Parisienne-sioux-city-le-mars-ia-f50f83590a0a00de76eba1dd29d1b39d.htm

Apparently some Canadian Pontiacs had chevy dashes? Haven't heard that one before. I guess they shared the BB fender emblems too.

To avoid tariffs imposed by the Canadian government, GM produced cars with part contents that were distinctively... Well, Canadian! Several variations of cars that were sold through Pontiac dealers looked like Pontiacs, but were actually built on Chevrolet chassis with Chevrolet power-plants. Body panels were not shared until later years as they had to fit the shorter Chevrolet wheelbase as well as use the Chevrolet instrument panels. Names were also distinctively Canadian as well: Parisienne, Laurentian, Acadian and later Beaumont. By 1970, the trade laws became superfluous and the unique models were discontinued, though names continued, including the Parisienne through 1986.

We've seen this car before when it was sold a few years back, was it not one of John Scotti's ? Its a beautiful car, priced too high for Canadians with the exchange rate now. I guess its hard to resists pointing out flaws or inaccuracy when we see Canadian cars for sale, especially in the US.

Nope, used the Pontiac instrument panel.  But the 68 2+2's used the Impala SS seat patterns.

I just wonder why or how they come up with this stuff. I can see they are not well informed on Cdn Pontiacs, but to make stuff up makes no sense. I've never heard of a Cdn Pontiacs with Chevy drivetrains having a Chevy dash, even those non Pontiac Beaumonts?

I have heard of Canadian Chevies having 61 Pontiac dashes (export units in 61-64 I think), but not the other way around.

The Canadian Pontiacs we have here in New Zealand came with the Chevy dash, most had the 261 engine but a few came with the 283.

Yes, I think it was only the RHD conversions that used the Chevy dash. I saw one in a wagon years ago.

I had not seen a NZ or Aussie RHD Pontiac of this vintage before, I have seen plenty of 61-64 Chevies from there with the 61 Pontiac dash which looks odd to me. I guess they had to pick one for RHD, I wonder why they didn't just keep using that 59 dash all the way to 64? They are very easy to work on compared to the 61 up stuff in both Pontiac and Chevy.

Nice 60's you have there.

Don

Thanks Don, we got the leftovers here. My 60 pontiacs were first registered in late 1960. The 50 chev I have was first registered in mid 51. Very difficult to get new cars in NZ back then so I think they were useing what was left over. An example is my turn signal cam spring. Ordered one for a 60 chev but found they were still useing the spring from 1958. Our cars were not converted from left hand drive, they were made with the steering wheel on the right side.
