I am already battling it. I have one option on order and am pondering another. I refuse to do anything other than a simple bolt in option on this car though. I just don't want to be taking it apart and changing stuff on it, as much as it's my natural instinct to do!

Optionitus.............. yep, i know all about that. I have had that sickness for at least 35 years. Carl, i could never resist adding original factory and dealer accessories to a car, as long as they actually belong on the car.

I'm thinking I should stay out of this discussion.
I have resisted adding anything to my 65 CS( underhood light, trunk light, sun shade mirror etc ) that isn't on the GM docs even if they were a dealer add on. ( 1 exception for safety sake I added a passenger side mirror )
But always have to say " it's your car - so your choice"

IMHO a lot of options on a base 2 door sedan may not look right. Usually this body style was purchased by a budget conscious individual who just wanted basic transportation.

Carl,
Your Strato Chief called again begging me to pick up your spare 427... 283 is scared out of his mind about being extracted. I feel bad but I have to do it for the sake of poor 283... who knows where the poor guy could end up. Strato wants no part of this nonsense although he did mention 12 bolt said bring it on pussies.

Nice car indeed, I can see a reason to keep it original, there is a certain elegance in it's simplicity.

More excellent work from Todd in finding Feature cars that keep us inspired, thank you.

There's even less chance of me selling the 283 if it does come out to be replaced by a four-two-seven! 283 could live the life of luxury, with his feet up, sitting on a crate, never having to work again pulling around the big old heavy Strato. As far as I'm concerned, I need to keep every part I change on this car (except for the Accel cap and wires of course) in the interest of originality.

I'm curious to see what the appraisal is going to come in at. I hope to have it this week.

Now, excuse me while I go explain to my car that it needs to quit calling Gary and telling him to take the 427 off my hands. Obviously my car doesn't understand what a perfect upgrade a 427 would be...

I agree with you guys, but man, it's like a disease, I'm having trouble not chasing stuff for the car. However, I'd say for the most part, common sense will prevail. I don't think I'll be ripping much apart to change things. (Unless the documents would come back saying it was originally an L72 car or something) biggrin

Hey carl, that is one sweet survivor! Perfect as it is. Its interesting you say it has 4 rear control arms which indicates the heavy duty suspension option. I thought that was normal for all of them! Every chev and pontiac from 65 on had the same in Oz! I wonder if that was installed as standard due to the australian driving conditions? Whenever a car was imported nd test run around australia and the testing grounds, they would shake themselves to bits and have to have the suspension upgraded before being released for sale.

Thanks Phillip.

I know almost every B body in this era that I parted over the years had two upper arms too but we know from seeing a few single upper arm cars that it wasn't on all of them.

It would be interesting to see if all the RHD cars came with two. Somewhere there must be an RHD spec sheet of some sort that lists standard equipment.

Must be a Pontiac thing. All the 65 Chevs I have or parted were 10 bolt 1 upper arm, other than 1 wagon a friend had which was 12 bolt 2 arm. All were 283 powerglide though, Impala and SS, other than the wagon. The wagon came along way before I knew how scarce that stuff was. 6cyl, bolt action, 12 bolt. Oh to have the parts from that 1 now.

You have a spare 427 just sitting around, Carl?!?! I'll bet it is trying to insert itself into your dreams, saying ""Put me in the 66. Please, I'll be so happy there. And so will you. Won't take much, easy fit. I'll be perfectly happy with the 3-speed tranny. Just put me in the 66. Please ..."

And thanks for all the compliments, I'm pretty thrilled with the car too.

When I got the deposit from Tom for my Grande Parisienne, it was the first time in 44 years that I did not own a 60's car. (Although the Grande was still here, the deal was made) It was a strange feeling. I figured I'd wait for the right driver to come along, one that needed nothing but a driver. I had no idea the right car would come home with me a week before Tom came for his car.

Stick to the plan, Carl... keep it original!  biggrin

Of course, it's your car and you have every right to do what you want with it.  Have fun!  smile

Interesting. All chevs and pontiacs of that era in australia came with 12 bolts and 2 top trailing arms. I have never heard of an australian assembled car by GMH of that era having 6 cylinder either. Generally were 283 with some 327s all power glide.

Wow, I had no idea you had no 10 bolts, no 6 cylinders. Interesting. I wonder what the thinking was there?

And no manual transmissions would be because of linkages etc. I assume.

Hoping to get to the tire swap this weekend. I went to change my plug wires last night and I made the mistake of trusting a website for the correct Delco wires (not a GM site). Went to install them and they are too short, likely for a Chevelle with the manifolds under the plugs, not over like the rams horn manifolds on B bodies. Soooo, I have to wait for the right Delco wire set tomorrow, can't drive the car to take it to the shop to install the new tires because I ripped the old Accel plug wires off the car (literally)

You're about 25 minutes too late, they just went into the garbage when I finished putting on AC Delco original plug wires!

Good on you........survivor has most definitely found a nice new home. Still need the hoist though.

It would have been nice to have the hoist to install those wires since the front 2 wires on these cars run through the space between the engine mount and the block.

Ha Carl, what a neat car. Gotta love these post cars, they are just so rare and most people will always say "don't see many of these" . Usually when it is a Pontiac it will be the only one! That is what always just gets to me, out here in Para(dise)ticton! hehe. Your's is surely a very rare one. Would the 12 bolt be a police interceptor item? Anyway good things come to those who wait - or - in your case , one who has been around to help and drive this Pontiac site for so many of us. It is a really neat car, and I know how you feel about the paint and changes. Mine was not as nice as yours , but close enough that I drove it for four years with the original exterior and interior. Good for you Carl.
