Fell off the Pontiac Wagon (just slightly) ....

Well, after many years of searching to pay homage to my Dad, I have finally found a suitable candidate... My Dad had, for about 4 months, a dealer demo '58 fullsize Chev with a 348ci and an automatic that as a young punk, flipped on its' lid... So, I had found and bought 2, 4-dr sedans that required a ton of work but never got to do much with them..

Saw on kijiji a couple of weeks ago and finally contacted the seller to take a look at it.... It is in very, very good condition minus a back window plus I got a Brookwood as a parts car but is too good to part out..

I will need a few parts for it including one Yeo script plus I will update as I go along... Can anyone decode this tag? She has been repainted but was Dusty Rose and Cream was said to be her colours.. the Rose being one of Dads favourite colours.

Neat wagons. I think the Yeoman was a 1-year offering that was a base Delray wagon in essence. The Delray was the base series in 1958, but it had actually been around as an upscale all vinyl interior trim option for the mid-level 210-series 2-door sedans from 1954 through 1957.

Figuring stuff out.... Cay Coral/Arctic White is her colour..... 980-B

AND, according to her Style #, 1293, she is suppose to be an 8-cyl made in (VN) Los Angeles, CA. But a 235ci sits in the engine bay.

Ton of progress... Spent the Canada Day weekend getting it on the road... Had it running the Thursday the 30th,

Friday

fuel sender removed, cleaned and the gauge working... it was plugged solid with the old gas... took the sender completely apart, cleaned the mating surfaces, cleaned the resistance wire and contact rub tab with scotchbrite, dielectric greased everything and reassembled...

front w/cyls cleaned up and assembled, L/front hose was hooped so I found a suitable replacement for the time being... the rear hose was plugged but managed to get mig wire through it for now... lights, signals, horn and all the little stuff...

Saturday

New rear w/cyls, bleed brakes and took it for a drive....

Since then, master cyl kit, NEW brake hoses, a thorough cleaning, intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, (ran like snot till 1/4+ throttle) On the down side, the engine smokes like a train!

On the plus side, found out what "EZI' on the data plate means.... Eazy Eye tinted glass...

Located a '58 Parisienne Wagon for a back glass and have a lead on another.... (Roger)

Pics to come..

Thanks! Not sure if I am the right one with it, but I am sure my Dad will agree with you! (haha)

Here is a similar colour scheme of the car when new.. Couldn't find a pic of a wagon with those colours...

I must say, the car is in great condition underneath for what it is.... even the park brake is complete and works.... (with that pulley system it uses)

That is a great wagon.  I was at a cruise last week and a local guy drove in with a 58 Del Ray two door, California car, black with a 6 cyl and 4 speed.  I had completely forgotten the name Del Ray and now the same for the Yeoman.  My brother had a 348 wagon back in the day and could not afford the gas.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I was just looking at the vacant space in your dash where the radio would go, and then I remembered that I actually have a metal 1958 Chevy radio block-off plate. Shoot me a P.M. if you are looking for one.

Cool thread to dig up!

Perhaps I read about this in the past and have since forgotten, but what is the status of the 2 wagons today?  Did you ever do anything with the Brookwood?

CdnGMfan, not sure what I am gonna do about the radio. But it would be neat to have and I wouldn't cut the dash. PM a $$ and we will go from there.

MC, well, disappointments abound. It was painted in '18 but the coulors are WAAAAAAY off. The Coral is close but the colour blind paint mixing expert couldn't mentally see that Arctic White is NOT banana cream when he mixed it... Like, who can't figure out that Arctic white should be such as that?

She sits atop the east hoist in the shop waiting to be repainted once again if I can ever find anyone with an old book with the proper mixing chart... (his excuse was that the paint was too old to mix)

If there are any older paint guys/gals here with the book with the right formula, I would appreciate feedback. Everyone I contact has the same excuse. I wish not to use base/clear but single stage enamel. 932A is the colour.

I got an actual code for the white from Canadian Tire on their can. Even if I had something close.

The pic is different than the human eye but the jist is there.

Sorry to hear that you ran into that snag.

Just an idea, if you have any of the proper colour around, can't a paint shop scan the actual paint sample to come up with a formulation that will match?

Best of luck with it!

New paints and painting techniques = reformulation. Leaded lacquer or baked leaded enamel just don't look the same as modern BC/CC water-borne paint. You have to talk to the paint rep.

Let me dig out the radio access hole cover (AKA radio block-off, radio delete (sic)) when I get the chance.

I am getting back to it. I was pissed with it so I had to walk away. I wanted a quick paint at the time but it ended up being a lot more. Then the off colour paint was the final straw. I have a few more paint contacts now and if I have too, i'll get it from the States.
