I'm pretty sure Chevy engines were used in Cdn Pontiacs in the early 50's, though they were straight sixes.  I'm also pretty sure there were Cdn Pontiac convertibles in the early 50's as well.

Ok....most of my Oshawa Pontiac literature/info...is from 58-68....

I just found a 54 Canadian Pont showroom brochure....and it shows ONLY 2 engines both 6 and 8 are flatheads.....this brochure contains BOTH US and Canadian models....and the only converts shown....are the US models....with round taillights.....Can Pons ALL had chevy taillights that year....

My 57 Oshawa brochure appears to be Canadian built cars ONLY....with the full line-up of chevy engines...which are painted GREEN....and a yellow Laurentian convert is shown....

I will dig out my parts catalog later....and see what it says...

Canadian Pontiac began in early 30's. At the beginning they were born with chevy engine, it didn't last long that Canadian Pontiac came with chevy engine altered with bigger bore. The flathead came later in the 40's, which is made like the US one. No information about the engine country of origine, but it appear to be logically the flathead came from US for Canadian Pontiac. Only 6 were available to 1954.

On the Canadian Pontiacs they used the same 239 c.i.d. flathead six through 1954 as the U.S.  For 1955 they had the 261 Chevy truck six but with hydraulic lifters, plus versions of the 265 Chevy V8.

A friend of mine's mother had a 1955 Laurentian convertible; turquoise & white. From conversations at the time it was a 'new' model Pontiac not previously available
