65 Parisienne 4 speed car


Please break this down style 76637 ,body 750396, trim 287 ,paint R , M20,It is a Custom Sport 4 speed in console car but what engine? Vin is 576637045XXX

As far as I know the only way to find out what engine it came with is to send the vin into GM Vintage vehicle services.

Correct, the only thing you can do is look at the fuel line. A 283 has 5/16" line, any bigger engine has 3/8" line.

The other thing I have read but can't confirm is that only 409's came with a ballast resistor for the wire to the ignition coil. Ken, does your brother's 409 car have it?

 Yes I believe that it does  I'll have to take a look though. One other thing might be that if had the cable engine mount tiedowns for the big recall the big block ones were on the rear of top left A arm and the small block ones were on the front (I think) so if you can see wear marks on one of those spots you might be able to deduce what kind  it was.

 On my 396 the line for the pump to the carb was also 3/8's

Agree, I have only ever seen the line being the same size from tank to carb, the whole way.

I have heard guys say that there are 327 cars with 5/16" but I've never seen it. I've only ever seen 5/16" on a 6 or a 283 2 barrel. Not sure about the 283 4 barrel cars.
