Transmission crossmember for Canadian built 72 LeMans

Hi all,

I have a 1972 Pontiac LeMans Luxury, it's a two door hardtop with a 400 small block Chevy, and TH350 trans. The car is a Canadian car built in the Oshawa plant. I was wondering what type of transmission crossmember these cars would have came with? I should note that the engine and tranny aren't original to the car, and the crossmember that came with the car when I bought is the flat stamped one that has the rubber mounts on the ends, and the caps that bolt over the rubber mounts. The problem i have is the crossmember doesn't seem to fit back in properly. I recently took it out to paint it just to clean it up a bit and make it last longer. When I tried putting it back in it doesn't seem long enough to sit between the frame rails properly. The end rubber mounts sit barely on the edge of the crossmembe, which doesn't seem right. just wondering if anyone has had this trouble before, also could I change out the crossmember for a 72 chevelle crossmembe? Thanks for any input.

I was going to suggest the Chevelle crossmember. I'm pretty sure that would work. Perhaps someone on here with more experience with these cars could verify?

Possibly you have a convertible crossmember as they were shorter due to having boxed frames while sedans and coupes have a C channel frame.

1968-72 Chevelle, Skylark, Cutlass, etc interchange but not all had the rubber ends.

ElCamino and Convertible were shorter due to the boxed frames.

Thanks
Randy
