there is a special tool required....i think you should take it to a restoration shop and let them do it....there is alot
of tension involved.....the procedure is shown in my 64 beaumont repair manual (i think they are the same)
It seems to me I had a piece of pipe the right size and shape when I did it on my GTO clone convert years ago, and as I recall it was not horrible, just not simple and a little bit nerve wracking!

Can be done with GOOD vice grips and pry bars but it's not simple. Prepare to sweat a little.
I removed a set of rods with Vicegrips on a '64 Parisienne.
