Look at that colour on the engine! That could be a good pic for the "engine thread". Cool car.

That two spoke steering wheel was standard equiptment on the pathfinder series in 55 and 56. It is a really rare steering wheel as most 55 and 56 pontiacs had the deluxe 3 spoke wheel and the 2 spoke was more common on sedan deliveries. Master brake cylinder is missing and the starter protection shield is also missing. I think this car might reach $1500- $2000. Pretty soild body but a nice entry level car. Somebody might get a really good deal.

A sweet little time machine. I have never seen a steering wheel/horn button set up like that before. Like Al said, it is always the upscale deluxe horn rings and centre's that are out there. I hope she goes to a good home and not a house of horrors.

That horn button must be incredibly rare and it is so intact.

That would be a FUN car to drive .."as is".....but I'd have to clean the tires....and find the master cylinder...

The more I look at the pictures the more I like that car. With about a weeks work master cylinder ,wheel cylinders brake shoes and clean up the brake drums a person could have it mobile. A couple of days washing compounding and waxing and the car would look really good. The auction add staes 11,000 miles but I would think it is rolled over and is 111,000 miles. The car looks to have original paint and I'll bet the undercarriage is loaded with rural Manitoba road tar. Remove the seat covers and the seats are probably still good with maybe a couple of seam splits.

I will check my parts book and see if any of the earlier 49 54 Pontiacs used that center cap on the steering wheel or if any Americian Pontiacs used it. I hope the car goes to someone who will try and keep it all original and not modify it. If the 261 had regular oil changes it will still go another 100,000 miles as it is such a strongly built engine. I think the upper ball joints will still have the factory rivits and most driveline parts will be original as farmers were known for doing regular maintance on their equiptment and best of all no road salt in Manitoba.

the odds might be good for getting this car for a good price

this auction will probably not draw a big crowd - the location is too far from Winnipeg and Brandon to get many people coming from there.

For what looks to be a farm household closeout auction there is really not a big selection of items

The real shame would be if a scrapper shows up and ends up buying it for scrap - however I don't think that will happen because there does not appear to be enough other junk like old trucks or farm machinery to make that trip worth  while for them to show up

there are ebay sellers who might show up and hope to get it for a low price and then part it out ( there is a seller who goes by the name of hep cats cars who does that) but again for one car it might not be worth the gas for them ( Note - I know this ebayer and he is nice guy so I am not knocking him for what he does - he saves a lot of needed parts from the old stuff vs  the scrappers who just want to haul it to the shredder weigh scale as fast as they can)

Plus it is supposed to rain

My thought would be even if the car has a reserve on it there is an advantage to being there -  if the sellers reserve is not met that might be the needed reality check for them and they might be ready to make an after the fact deal

You can probably ask the auction company if there is a reserve

Again I don't want to cause anyone to waste gas and time getting there so do some research - if I was interested in the car I would ask about the condition of the interior - any rodent damage(?)

Just my local Manitoba farm auction wisdom

Is it just me, or not but I really like the old 1966 Mercury Meteor as well.

I think  the meteor is neat too just from the standpoint of it being a typical Manitoba prairie car - no options - radio delete plate - almost an updated version of the 56 Pontiac in terms of its equipment level

It was obviously prized and very well cared for

I would be interested to hear what it sells for - I bet it barely goes for over $1,000 - it is not a highly sought after model particularly in that trim level

RE: 1956 Pontiac time capsule in Sept 24 Manitoba farm auction - something to put in the trunk - vintage chainsaws

If you are there anyway and happen to get the car ( or not) these two retro beauties would be something to snag if the bidding stays low

I cannot believe I am saying this, but placed an absentee bid on the old Meteor, just something about it speaks to me??? After reading the comments about value?? Hope posts are right the bidding will be low.

I love that 66 Meteor being a rare in line six and column stick shift. That is a real novel air cleaner set up on the six. I am old enough to remember seeing these cars all over the place at one time. Go with your heart and if you really want it ....... get it.
