Driver's side door window was hard to roll up, had to push it down, then it fell inside door. Removed it. Determined that rollers and regulator are fine, but window glass came out of the bottom sash channel (the big cast chromed part that attaches to the bottom of the window, which the rollers of the regulator fit into).
Now I have to get it back together so it will work well in the future.
Neighbor (40+ years as Cadillac body man) says clean out black gunk (looks like some kind of caulking, maybe, from some prior attempted fix?) from channel of bottom sash channel and use duct tape (!?!?!? wtf) around bottom of window then force (i.e. hammer ?!?!?! wtf) glass into it, then install. Idea of using duct tape around window bottom then forcing it into channel does not appeal to me, but, my neighbor has lots of experience ...
Cannot find good instructions on internet ... factory shop manual says window glass and bottom sash channel are "one piece" - no information on replacing glass into bottom sash channel.
Steel Rubber Products has some "Sash Channel Liner (rubber) - for all applications fitting glass to sash channel not requiring weatherlip type of filler" ... ???
Some hints from internet about going to glass shop and having them set glass in channel with urethane or something ... ???
Help!
Thanks,
Dave
P.S. any tips on installing the window glass into the door will also be appreciated ... lots of mixed information from Google search, and none of it for 1964-5 Beaumonts/Chevelles. Factory Shop Manaul says to install glass/channel to rollers of regulator from top, but that opening looks to me to be awfully narrow ...

lots of different ideas on how to do this on the net. Im about to do my side glass on my 64 parisienne, so i have been reading anything i can find. The general idea is to use the tape which best holds the glass snuggly. Then soak the setting tape in motor oil overnight and the tap the glass into the frame with the tape wrapped over the glass. The oil will swell the tape and you should have a good fit. I used a heat gun to soften the old tape and the glass pulled out with ease.
late great chevy tech has a great writeup about the proceedure.

Yep urethane x 2 - clean the channel and urethane the Chanel good and push the glass in and let it dry then trim the extra off nice and clean and done!
Just did this to mine a couple of months back. Buy some setting tape, clamp window channel in a workmate(so it doesn't kick sideways). Put tape in window channel and use a small piece of wood to push it down so that it seats in bottom of channel, otherwise it may tear or cut cut when the glass is pushing it down. Spray small amount of windex on bottom edge of glass and place over channel. Use a 1x2 or whatever you have lying around and place on top of glass. Tap with a rubber/wooden mallet untill it seats in bottom of the channel. Trim off excess tape with razor knife. Done!
Any glass shop should have the tape.
