1966 Protectoplate and Coupons Found Never Used


When we were doing the building for our 66 pontiac parisienne we found the protecto plate and coupon book and owners guide had been lost and had sat on top of the heater housing since new.  When we were removing the interior we were totally shocked to find that the documents sitting there in perfect shape.  Non of the coupons for oil changes had ever been used, and no records had ever been written down except the dealership info.  We think who ever put them in the glove box missed or something because they sat on the heater till 2015.  Are they reare to find like this?finished shell and interior (120).jpgfinished shell and interior (119).jpgfinished shell and interior (118).jpgfinished shell and interior (117).jpg

Fairly rare, most got tossed or lost. Don't know how much it adds to the value of the car but cool to have. Have them for my 4dr....wish I had them for my 2dr.

What an awesome find. To have the orginals in perfect condition, that came with a 50 yr old car, is very rare, especially the perfect condition part.

As I understand it.....the Protecto-plate program....was a dealer elective.....and not all dealers got involved....

They are a NICE piece of documentation.......

I'm lucky....My 64 Parisienne came with both glovebox books AND protecto-plate....

My owner's guide has all it's coupon intact. Never had a Protecto-plate.

That's sure a different protecto plate from what you were getting by 69/70. The couple I have are partially stamped by the factory in the tin and then reverse letter-maker for the name and so on. And bare tin, not painted!

We could prolly have a separate thread here....just on Protecto-plates.....I've got a shoebox full of them here somewhere....and it's amazing how many different styles were made...

I believe the Protecto-plate program was farmed out.....not unlike the way banks have your checks printed....and there may have even been regional choices......for the dealers to order.....depending on their location...

The one for my 64.....is similar to the plastic 66 one pictured above....but don't recall the GM logo being there...

I have one for a 73? Firebird......that is actually a 4" x 8" piece of cardboard.....and the vehicle stats are reverse printed on black Dymo-label tape.....if you remember what that was....

I think the US plates were metal and our's were plastic. I had a metal one I found in a wrecking yard 66 Lemans and I had a plastic one from my 67 Grande Parisienne wagon.

 Think they changed in 67-8? Or maybe it depended on the dealership, but our cars were bought off the same lot,just a year apart. My 66 one is exactly the same as the one pic'd,but my mother inlaws 67(car bought at Empress in Victoria) one is metal.

Thanks for the responses, It is interesting that there are a bunch of differences. It would be cool if we could find out who the original owner/s were and find out some of the history...i think we will buiild a little plexi glass box or something to put the booklets on display when the car goes to shows only. It would also be awesome to have some other literature too. I know our car is not stock, or super rare, but I still want to kinda tell the story of these cars when ever people look at the car and ask about it. I will take some clearer pictures and post them, It is super cold here now mabey will build the plexi glass box this evening.

i have my protecto plate and my book missing maybe 2 or 3 coupons

i have a seat belt brochure titled what about those seat belts ?? i guess came with the car

also a new vehicule waranty sheet in an enveloppe form ( about the size of a post card)

also of course the owners manual

 Original owners name should be on the protecto plate and address might be on the service book (mine has it) might be a good place to start if wanting to track down owners/history.

Here's a photo of the documentation that came with the 75 Firebird Esprit I owned. You can see the protecto plate on the bottom left. It was sold new at Forbes in Waterloo, Ont.
