The brown one is stock 59 Pontiac, two black ones are from the 62, with new slip joint. It looks like all the new drive shafts are phased all in line as newer trucks etc. Found from Google search that the 90* phase works because cruise rpm is 2300rpm up with over drive rpm is about 2000 or little less. The explanation was related to the number of power impulses per revolution! At faster speed it is 4/rpm in overdrive goes down to 2.6, engine now working harder and not as smooth (www.superchevy.com/how-to/engines-drivetrain/0205sc-vibrations/) where i found this. Update on the drive shaft phase of 90*. Went to machine shop today was going to cut shaft and phase at 180* Loyd said NO it may vibrate-- said he got caught with that long time ago on Chevy 1/2 ton became a redo. Laurie
New center bearing is here! Installed in drive line and in car, looks far to nice to be hidden. Just have to wait for snow to melt Laurie

That sure looks good Laurie. I went a different route to rectify my vibration ( on acceleration) mainly because I already had the components. I replaced my original 700R4 dipstick with a firewall mounted one because the original one would not let me shim the xmission any higher to obtain a max. angle of 3 degrees between the xmission tail shaft and the 1st driveshaft. By doing this and cutting and re-welding 3/8 inch out of my hangar bearing to lower it I was able to stay within my 3 degrees maximum. I also had an adjustable upper control arm from Spohn performance to set my pinion angle. I also didn't like the way my original 1st driveshaft yoke stuck out of the rear of the xmission. I used the bigger and longer splined yoke from the 700R4 truck xmission with a reducing u-joint. I had to machine some material from the neck of the yoke and also cut a bit of the splined shaft to keep it from bottoming out in the xmission but now it sits further into the xmission. Well today was a beautiful day and I did my first test drive and It looks like it was successful. Smooth at 110 k too. I hope the pictures turn out.

Rockauto lists a 59 Chevy center support bearing as a spicer 1280, no bearing listed for a 59 Catalina, so,likely not the same.

An update and need for info. Installed new drive shaft assy. vibrates real bad 55mph up! Have since raised trans. to 3* read allot of posts on Chevy Talk . Found out the hanger bearing needs should be lowered one post suggests an angle mill ie .200" to >.0 or just shorten support about 3/8" to 1/2". Found that if yoke is pushed into trans most of way all the angles get better to the point that raising the pinion may be all needed. Read a post --- said don't change anything until rear suspension bushing are all in good shape----- I need bushings!! Oem rubber cheapest or polyurethane grease able. Loooked at the upper link jimP used looked nice then seen whole set of upper arm lowers and a sway bar polyurethane grease able. Ok need to know is the poly allot better than rubber , new arms would look nice maybe. Laurie If this is too long-boring I can fix that.
I've used Energy Suspension poly bushings, no problems there.
It sounds like your vibration is worse now than before?? I'd guess that the new bushings is not going to improve that "much".

Vibration is worse, looking at the trailing arm bushings they are quite worn, can see where the bolt on rear bushings is way up to the top both sides lots of cracks around front ones. Looking at checking pinion angle but read post on Chevy Talk which said to check bushings etc. before making changes thanks for info on the bushings you used Laurie UPDATE--- have trailing arms out rear bushings collapsed bad allowing axle to move up which moved pinion down front bushings not to bad starting to move axle forward slightly. Have new bushings now (Energy Suspension) for bottom and top arms should make things better I hope! Laurie

Vibration is gone!! Measured all the angles, lowered the center bearing as jimP did, then all the angles started looking good!
with the 700r4 at 3* down thats what books call for still is not right in the center because new trans is longer so first shaft starts up at a point lower than PG did lowering the center bearing fixed that , thanks Jim,
also replaced all the rear suspension bushings old ones really bad used Energy Suspension work well easy to install, thanks Don. Had car out yesterday up to three digit mph all good! Laurie
