Thank you guys much appreciated so theoretically this US GP bumper should bolt straight onto my 68 OZ Parisienne same length same width and the bumpers irons where they bolt onto the chassis should be the same
Thanks Carl that's the number I was provided with and according to norontcan it checks out so that is what I am thinking as well, just a bit wary before I spend big $$$ on purchase and freight to OZ, thanks again for the advice guys
I finally got a chance to take a look at my December 1972 GM parts book. It indicates part # 9790056 was used on all of the various body styles of 1968 B body Cdn Pontiac's.
Something to think about though. While the bumper itself may be the same Cdn vs USA, the brackets that go from the bumper to the frame may be different.
When I did my facelift, I used my chrome surround and backing metal from my Parisienne. I purchased the headlight actuators, all the grill pieces, vacuum canister and headlight switch. Keep thinking that GM was very modular and did't like to reinvent too many wheels so they did try to reuse as much as possible. When you get the grills, make sure you get the outside little pieces, those are real tough to get. I do have more pictures if needed.
I think that's it then, will go with this bumper (complete unit and in pretty good condition, especially the hardware)
I got the guy to measure the distance between the bumper irons where they bolt onto the chassis, they are exact as mine plus he provided some other measurements for mounting points which line up perfectly.
Wish me luck guys, that it arrives in OZ without any problems, I am spending quite a few $$$ to get this.
For what its worth I can add two tidbits; the 68 GP front bumper is the same as the regular American bumper (without hideaways) from Catalina etc and when I pulled the bumper on my 69 2+2 to replace a grille a few months back I compared it to a spare US 69 front bumper I had and they are identical.
What I'm reading into this is that the frames for Parisienne and Catalina are the same width in 68 and 69. Or at least the locations of the bumper brackets are the same? I wonder if the same is true for 1967 models. Looking at pictures I have always assumed that a Catalina is a slightly wider car overall than a Parisienne re the 67 model year. But if bumpers fit both, then the width would be the same. I know a Catalina has a longer wheelbase and a slightly wider track (at least in the front) in 1967 than a Parisienne. Maybe the whole front clip for a Catalina fits a Parisienne these years and vice versa.
Off subject, but where did you find that tape measure (brand?) and how much to ship 1 to Canada!! Feet/inches and fractions with no metric, would luv to have one! Sorry for the derail....normally Doug and Carls specialty.
