So my 69 Parisienne had the headliner destroyed by mice. I have purchased a replacement white headliner as the light green is not available and the SEM colour match comes out yellow. Incorrect code.
Do I just install the white headliner and live with it or are there any other custom vinyl dye choices?
According to the paint supplier they can't scan the colour of the clean swatch I have.
Absolutely true, I've been down that road with several paint suppliers. They insist they cannot scan anything with a grain such as upholstery [vinyl or fabric] or a headliner with on embossed pattern.
Had to go with an approximation mix which does not always correspond to the original.
As the man said, "Ya pays yer money and Ya takes yer chances"!
The only safe colors are black and parchment [white].
I went to the paint shop and got them to give me the quart of sem that they had mixed some time ago that came out baby poop yellow (drop on left side of paper). I mixed in dark green sem until I got, what I feel, is a satisfactory result.
Later this spring I will stretch the headliner out and give it blast of colour and install.
The beauty of the SEM spray bombs is , they spray in any position. I've done a couple of headliners now in the car. I used to take them out and nail them to a wall to spray them before.
Where did you purchase the headliner- who is the manufacturer? Did you shop around and compare different products? I'm curious more about quality than price. Did you find something (aside from colour) that is an exact match for the original headliner in terms of fabric texture, pattern etc? I may be in the market for a headliner sometime down the road. I'm going to keep an eye on your project and hopefully you can keep us all up to speed on how it turns out. Thanks!
remember that the Canadian Pontiac uses the same headliner including sail panels as the Impala Sport (fast back). I believe the correct grain is Bedford some times called 'ribbed'. I feel ACME make the nicest headliners but they do not sell retail.
Thanks for the info Dale. I'm still a ways off getting a restoration underway- probably next spring. But I will contact you when I'm closer to that time. I will also be looking for the best quality door panels and seat covers available. In parchment/white. I will need a white convertible top too. I hear it's a long wait to get door panels made. I may need a set for a hardtop too- eventually. Anyhow, thanks for your info.
The Parisienne door panels were the same as Impala. You can get them in repro. I've seen them and the quality appeared good. Not sure if you can get them in your colour though.
I think they have that same shape as the Impala but definitely not the same pattern. I've read there's quite a difference in quality and some of the brands and manufactures. And maybe some new products that are quite good. But I've heard it may take up to six months from order to receive them. Good thing I have lots of time!
had the same problem years ago i installed the head linner then i painted it .both front and rear glass were out . i tried sem paint did not match i got paint mixed to my liking never tried a spray bomb
I was surprised that my 69 2+2 with parchment interior has a black headliner, pillar pads and ear muffs. American 69's with parchment interior have a black dash, rug, console and package shelf in black but pillars, ear muffs and headliner are Parchment. I thought this might have applied to all interior colors but if yours was green than I guess the black headliner was just used on black and Parchment interiors.
Growing up, my parents purchased a 69 Strato Chief new with the blue interior and the entire interior was blue, my 69 Parisienne high school car champaign/goldish colour throughout the interior, and my current 69 Parisienne has the medium green throughout. The 69 396 2+2 project I have, didn't have a headliner in it and I didn't look very close to verify before putting into storage. My VVS document indicates parchment interior with black carpet.
