Hope I'm reading this correctly but group 2.189 lists part number 1116659 as 1965 all, then adds -D-1462 ( whatever that means.) Note only 1965.

This number, 1116659, does not appear in the Chev 58->65, Beaumont 64->69, Chevelle 62->67 or Buick 65->76 books.

Try putting 1116659 into ebay and 2 switches will come up. One of which cross references the D-1462. Note they are expensive enough and 9 pin.

I suspect the only one that will work is the actual 65 switch, the number as stated above being 1116659. I'd be leery of buying any other switch and hoping it fits.

Pritch, the connector looks fine but look in his picture between his thumb and finger. The housing looks to be completely different there. I am guessing there is a reason the part number is not the same from 64 to 65.

Yes, Carl. I noticed the housing is different. Do you suppose that his housing has something to do with the light? As you may or may not be aware, on a '64 the light creates a complete circle around the switch. Just a thought- - -

Yes, I am pretty sure that's what that loop is for in his picture.

As for the electrical part, it sure looks perfect though.

One thing to consider...(even though the terminals may be located the same)  is the threaded portion on the barrel of the switch the same length?

Some threads run deeper on the switches than others. Some have built in standoffs that will limit the amount sticking out of the dash.

With not enough threads you won't be able to tighten down the chrome nut that fastens the ignition switch on the dash.

The nut will go as far as it can and be tight, but the ignition will be sloppy and loose on the dash.

So check the depth of the threads as well as the terminals. Like I said they can be different.

image.jpegStill haven't found a switch yet. The trouble I was having was the key in start position sometimes it would work sometimes not. If you tried to start by turning the key slow enough there was a sweet spot where it would catch (start) now it wont at all. so many different switches that look the somewhat the samimage.jpege but not same part number.

Percy, do you still have this switch? There's a guy on a Canadian Pontiac Facebook group looking for an ignition switch for his 64 Parisienne.

Yes, 63 and 64 are the same part number in the GM parts book.

Are you on The Canadian Pontiac Facebook group?
