1950 Pontiac 235 cu in engine

Hello

Well my initial start up of my 235 L6 has reached a slight problem. The retainer springs or clips at the end of the oil pump shaft that meet or make connections to the distributor shaft have been misplaced.  I have been told they are unique to Pontiac ? in that the oil pump shaft is what makes connection to the cam shaft with the gear, this is indeed true, I have these components and this is correct.  Apparently the Chevrolet products in 1950 had the driven gear on the distributor shaft ? not sure about this.

My Manual dose not show these springs or clips with clarity, if anyone has these components,  I am interested to see them fitted on the end of the oil pump shaft , a photo would be really appreciated.

Also if anyone has an extra set of these springs , clips or retainers, I would be very interested in buying a set of them.

thanks in advance

The spring retainers are group no 1.644 and part number 495016. The spring retainers appear to be part of the oil pump to hold the distributor from moving. In the parts book the springs are part of the oil pump assembly . I think all you need to do is find an old oil pump from a 1941 - 1955 pontiac flat head six. When installing the distributor you can slightly feel the the springs holding.

Thanks for the response AL.

This is great information, and I know you are right when you say these springs are part of the pump assembly.  I do have leads out looking for a Pontiac Flat Head, no success yet.

I also sent an email to Egge Machine in California, they claim to rebuild oil pumps , I hope this avenue works.

Thanks for the feed back

Dale
