Thought about flying out BUT I'm not a flyer, last time I flew, "puked" in the bag!!!! Keep both feet on the ground now. 3 days out & another 3 back with trailer would have been a great adventure, not sure if I could do 3 provinces on a 'trip permit" ?? but that's 6 hotel nights,+ food gas & wear & tear on vehicles etc. Also running short on time as W. Virginia trip coming end of month. Booked shipping on "standby" for possible empty space on back haul at a lower price. Tempting to "live" up to my Handle as dualquad Pete as my previous 2 Pontiacs were 2x4 set ups!!!! I'll just leave it at a "MAYBE" for now It's a long winter coming, new shop, Hoist installed, heated "Hmmm"

Good score on the Wagon Pete.
Too bad on the timing that you couldn't come out and get it.
Would have been another epic adventure for CP.
Pretty sure you wouldn't have had to worry about hotels much on the trip.
Insurance is another problem, would need an appraisal before they will insure it,[ and must be in my name on ownership] also would i need a trip permit for each province???

My trip permit ( 3 years ago ) was good Alberta to Ontario. Got stopped in Manitoba because of no plates but once the officer saw the window sticker it was " have a nice trip "
Most antique insurance policies cover new purchases for up to 6 days. I found this out a while back when I called my agent and told him I was thinking of buying an as of yet undetermined car at a market state side.

Not sure about other provinces, but Johnnee just did this 3 days ago in Manitoba. He's an Ontario resident.
We went to my local agent with his proof of insurance, his driver's license, bill of sale and the Manitoba Transfer of Ownership Document signed by the seller (same as a Title for US cars).
Johnnee was able to buy a 5 day permit for $38, but I think in the end he bought a 10 day for something like $78. Included in that, he is insured by Manitoba Public Insurance who does basic insurance on all vehicles registered in Manitoba. It covers him in all provinces, so he wouldn't even have needed his proof of insurance. The only reason I insisted he have the car insured before I went to pick it up with the trailer was he would have no insurance on it if something happened to it on the trailer, or when it sat in our garage until he got there.
The MPI insurance is pretty basic, $500 deductible, $200,000 liability insurance but at least it is insured.

Won't Silver Wheels/Hagerty now cover you without an appraisal? You just do "agreed value"? They want some pics and I forget what else.

YES but after the "problems" I had with them a few years ago with claim on Avanti [ wiring fire] and 4 months of fighting with them, wouldn't go there!!! I switched to Vintage after that and rates are MUCH lower too. Treated me great when I lost both cars in garage fire, + their home Insurance was terrific on garage rebuild. They do require an appraisal, but that's a good thing as you written proof of value if you have a unfortunate loss!!! Have been told that without that, they can question your $ figure on claim and say "prove it" ????

As much fun as a road trip would be I would be in the same shoes as you Pete. I can't obtain insurance without and appraisal. And would not be possible to take the time away from work and family to do. Sometimes it's just simpler all around to have it shipped and sort out the particulars after.
