Well im baffled. Had a friend over looking tonight also.

Pulleys dont line up. The bracket for the power steering pump is infront of the 1st groove on the main pully on the crank.

the fan pulley dosnt line up with anything.

the forward most groove on the power steering pump lines up with the forward most groove on the crank pulley.

the alternator pulley lines up with the most rear pulley on the main crank pulley but as i said that belt cant go on because the bracket for the power steering pump is in the way.

I have hit a wall on this. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

I re-read what you wrote.

The power steering is correct, it should line up with the groove in the crank pulley farthest from the balancer.

Now I remember, I think you have a 64. My 66 has no PS but this is the alternator setup.

Sorry for all the questions but you are saying your water pump pulley is too far back or too far forward to line up with anything? Does it have that little bowl shaped spacer behind it, between the back of the pulley and the water pump flange? Is it possibly from a 6 cylinder? I am not sure they are different but maybe the depth is different?

Oh, and not that this will affect anything as far as belt alignment, but your two top bolts in your water pump need to switch sides. The stud is for the ground cable so that you just remove a nut to remove the ground cable, not the actual water pump bolt. The bolt is for the alternator bracket which should sit right up against the water pump body, with the bolt through both of them.

sorry about the lighting but best i can do.
see my finger? Why is the power steering bracket infront of the groove on the crank pulley? the groove for the fan pulley lines up with nothing. Alternator seems correct.

I am thinking that's gotta be the wrong power steering pump bracket, maybe from a later model, because you can't put that bottom pulley on wrong, it has to be there.

Where did all these parts come from?

Are you saying the water pump pulley, alternator pulley and crankshaft pulley (alternator groove in that pulley) all line up and would work except the ps bracket is in the way? To me it looks like the water pump pulley and crank pulley don't line up. Or is that an illusion?

Did you change the water pump?

I once had one, also on a small block with the short water pump like your's, where the rebuilder had pressed the flange on the water pump shaft in the wrong place.

hard to tell in the picture but the fan pulley groove is in between the 2 grooves on the crank pulley. all this stuff only goes on 1 way and is impossible to put on wrong...or so I thought.

for some reason i thought it was a one piece pulley. been a while since I reassembled it. I will pull it off tomorrow and see whats up.. I appreciate all the input.

The bottom pulley is two pieces, back one is almost flat but not quite, pulley that drives the power steering is the deep one.

The center hole lip goes towards the crank and the outer pulley has two bigger holes that line
up with the 2 small lips on the inner pulley to hold the two pulleys together when bolted up.

This should bring the belt to within 1/4 to 3/8 in clearance of the bracket.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, such as a blown water pump gasket on the RZR and making salsa and pickled beans and carrots, there wasnt enough time to look at the pulleys. I will get on it tonight I hope and update you. I really appreciate the quick replies!
