I live in the UK and two years ago I imported a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Esprit that I bought from Davidts in Edmonton.
I was looking for a late 70's model that was in original condition. Here it is at a local car show in July 2016.
According to the build sheet which I found behind the back seat, the car was built in late October / early November 1978 at Van Nuys. It was a customer order destined for Adams Motors in Wetaskiwin.
The car is fitted with the Buick V6 with auto transmission. Among the options are an engine block heater, cruise control, power windows and deck lid release, tilt steering and Camel tan Hobnail cloth interior. Exterior color is Sierra Copper with the D98 stripe and body colored Rally II wheels. The car still has the PO6 wheel trim rings and B37 mats that it was originally ordered with.
Since buying the car I have overhauled the brakes and suspension, fitting a Summit Racing poly bush kit, and had the rear quarters replaced although I am still debating whether to respray the car (Sierra Copper) or try to retain as much of the original appearance as I can.
I have owned several other Pontiacs in the past - 78 Firebird, 83 Trans Am, 89 Firebird and a 1990 Grand Prix. However I felt that the time was right to find an original and unmolested example hence my purchase from Davidts. David was extremely helpful answering all my questions and when the car finally arrived in the UK it was exactly as he had described it.
My other hobby is building 1/24 and 1/25 scale American cars and trucks and over the years I have built a number of second generation Firebirds as you can see below (please note homage to my 79 at bottom left complete with D98 stripe).
'64 Parisienne CS "barn find" - last on the road in '86 ... Owner Protection Plan booklet, original paint, original near-mint aqua interior, original aqua GM floor mats, original 283, factory posi, and original rust.
My car is LHD as it came from the factory. I do have a reproduced article about a RHD Trans Am in Australia from 1978 but this was a conversion.
Any additional information about Adams Motors would be appreciated.
Pictures of my car can been seen on Davidt's website, just check out stock number 717. They were taken in May 2015 just before it was shipped to me. You can see the quarter panels that were supplied with the car attached to it for shipping. If you look closely at one of the interior pictures you will see an after-market temperature gauge mounted below the dash - other than that the car is original.
