65 convertible door window runner channel rubbers


 Can you get the window channel rubbers new with the moulded part at the top? Or do you need to scavenge some decent ones from the old rubbers?

Any of the rubber weatherstrip pieces for the windows should be available repro Phillip. Are you taking about the pieces that seal the top of the 1/4 glass and door glass?

I got window fuzzies and door weatherstrips for my Grande Parisienne a few years back from NOS Reproductions but I think they quit selling weatherstrips since then.

If you're referring to the triangle shaped piece that screws on to the top of the channel, the aftermarket strips do not come with it.  I've had no luck finding these.

Steve, can you show which piece you mean? I can't picture it for some reason.

Is it convertible only?

Sorry I don't have a pic, but I believe it is common on all, although not sure about 4 doors.

It's a molded piece seated at the top of the forward window track and held in with a screw inside the track. Basically, it takes up the gap at the top where the top edge of the glass is cut at an angle.

Lame image, ...it's the black triangle shaped part.

Interesting, I've never seen that but obviously it's convertible only.

I'll have to see if I can scare up a GM # tonight and see if there's any luck with it that way.

Hard top as well at least in 65. I'm sure I changed those front run channels in the hardtop about 25 years ago. I don't recall reusing the existing top piece. Pretty sure it was all 1 piece on the repro part. This would have been a Soft Seal part as I think that was all that was available then. I can take a look and see what is on it and compare to the convert, it is original I'm sure.

 You did well then,... I only got the felt 'U' shaped strip and reused the old molded tip,  Carl, if you happen to locate that part # or by chance find any, I will gladly take a couple. 

Any chance those plastic guides (as in the other post) are available?

This is the end in question. I think pillarless 4 door, 2 door and convertible use them. Looks like steel are the go!

Sounds like it from the description Phill.
Just got in from checking mine, and yes my replacements have the molded bumper on the end. I even took out the screw to make sure lol.

I know I'm talking a different vehicle but the new ones for my 64 Beaumont ( Chevelle ) have the triangular piece so why wouldn't the full size.

I looked in the one book and I show it for 64 convert and 66 convert but not 65. I'm sure it's the same, Chev and Pontiac. I'll try some more books.

Here's what I did this afternoon. Installed the window runner channels on a front door for a 64 A body convertible. Can't believe that it would be any different than a B body convertible.

Also just a hint but the screw that helps hold the top rubber into the channel does more than just hold the rubber in. It is an integral part of the window framing. Small part but it is crucial. 

And as a bonus I learnt how to insert the pics in between lines of text. Productive afternoon. biggrin.gif

Thanks guys, looks like they are available!. Next challenge if you choose to accept it is the rear window channel felt in the front door.. the ones discussed herre are the front run channel. Looking at the rear window run channel, it appears to be integral to the channel. Is it removable?

Is this an actual rubber channel like the front of the glass or is it just a fuzzy tape placed in the steel channel?

This is just a fuzzy U-shaped insert in the steel channel if I have it right. I think the idea is to keep the window from rattling when it's down. Can't really see any other purpose other than I guess it's a guide when the window goes up and down in the steel.

If it is the rear vertical channel, not sure if the felt is removable or available, and it serves as the rear slide for the glass. On mine, there is an adjustable steel tab mounted to the back of window frame that runs inside this channel. Being a somewhat friction slide, I have pondered the idea of somehow fabricating a roller assemebly for less restriction......confuse

Don't remember what was in there, pretty sure I didn't have to change anything it was " good enough"
I do recall on another build Dad and I did we had to fix up some guides like this and we used self stick Velcro, just the fuzzy side, worked well.

It seems to me you can buy that stuff by the foot from some of the repro guys but I couldn't find it last night when I looked.

I think Gemini Reproductions in Winnipeg used to sell it if any of you guys remember them.

You should also be able to buy it " by the foot " from SpaeNaur in Kitchener. In fact I'm thinking I need it for my 64 Beaumont SD. On the A body there is a plate attached to the bottom of the bottom window frame that runs up and down in this channel. Should be the same on a B body.

Upon removal and inspection, you are correct. Almost like felt was on the sheet metal then was formed. No replacing that! It ill have to do. I think its for smooth operation and antirattle to an extent.
