Tail light / Brake light wireing 1966-67 Canso

Hi I'm trying to troubleshoot the wiring in the trunk but it has been so long since my Canso was on the road that I can't recall just how the tail lights are supposed to function.  If the running lights are on which of the bulbs are lit?  The upper - lower - or both?  What then should happen if you engage the brake?  And finally what is correct if you engage the turn signal?  Thanks for your time and interest

both lights work running and signal. all 4 bulbs are 1157s

I went and got LED bulbs for mine so as not to over heat the lens

So all 4 on for brake/signal?

They changed it from 65. On 65, only the outer ones come on for brake/signal, all 4 on for tail lights.

I wonder what the reasoning was for the change from one brake light per side the year before?

Thanks for the quick reply's. I understand that one element in each of the four "sections" are illuminated when the park lights or head lights are engaged. I still have a question about the tail lights; is the top section of the housing operating the signal lights and the bottom displays the brake lights? I may not have worded my original question very well, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Yes my car was and will be red on red.

Top and bottom both flash when signal on, top and bottom both bright when brakes applied. All 4 on (dim) when parking/headlights on. So with no signal on all 4 should be bright with brakes applied and if left turn on both upper and lower left bulbs should flash.

think of it as not top and bottom, but as each light has two bulbs that do the same thing.
