62 catalina wipers ?

Friend of mine saw this ad [ 323049249804[ on eBay for 62 Catalina, wipers do not overlap? possibly has single speed wipers & if so  do they use Canadian set up? His 62 G/P has 2 speed and over lap wipers like my 64 Catalina had? my 64 Wagon has non overlap

Could it be a sedan vs. hardtop thing?

I thought it was a Cdn US thing too. I looked at the 65 US Pontiac for sale on here, the 421 vert, and the red and black 65 Parisienne in Quebec, the wipers are not the same, the Cdn has the non overlap. But 59's are overlap.

Looking through ebay listings for 62 US models I found both styles. Can't figure out a pattern so far.

Parallel wipers were a Canadian Pontiac thing. They eliminated the unwiped spot in the center of the windshield. 1-speed wipers were standard; 2-speed wipers with washers were optional (can you believe it?)

The U.S. Pontiacs used wipers that met in the middle and mirrored each other but left an unwiped area in the center of the windshield.

2-speed wipers with washers were not standard until 1966 models.

I agree but then why does the blue 62 sedan in the ebay auction have parallel wipers? It doesn't make sense?

Browsed through a bunch of 62-65 US models for sale online and found this. I don't get it...... Suddenly a random car with Canadian style wipers.

I wonder if the one speed wipers use the Canadian style linkage?

Frank's Pontiac Parts website has a listing for wiper linkage for a Catalina and he specifies "with one speed wipers".

And I looked some more. That's exactly what it is.

The red 2+2 has a square wiper motor with no washers, and has parallel linkage.

And here's the wiper motor on the same year car with US style linkage.

I am quite confident it's solved, yes.

One speed wipers on US Pontiacs seem to be extremely rare and so it seems are parallel wiper blades.

I haven't checked but I wonder if the parallel wiper parts on the US cars are identical to the Canadian pieces.

When I "converted" my 62 Parisienne 2 dr HT to a Catalina SD, I purchased a 62 US cowl and complete wiper linkage from a 62 Caddy for overlap wipers. My 62 originally had the 2 speed parallel wipers but the US parts went in easily as both sets of mounting holes are present under the cowl already. I would say that both the US and Canadian use the same parts.
