Dumb and bizarre comments

"My Monte Carlo (1974 model) has Mercedes Benz suspension that was installed at the factory."

"He revved his 390 4 speed Torino to 12 grand and the bellhousing came through the hood."

My brother was bugging a guy that his 65 Canso SD 283 Powerglide was slow. The guy responded with "Yeah, but I've got a 4 barrel for it in the trunk". To which my brother replied "I bet you got the fastest trunk in town."

Just a few that come to mind right now.

Mike, yes and complete agreement. I have thought for over thirty years that Mr. George Carlin is the greatest that ever was and ever will be. When really great comedians say that he was their favorite it just reaffirms just how important he was. I remember hearing about his death and feeling like i lost a friend. I know how corny that sounds but his death really affected me. To this day i have countless hours of his work on DVD and CD. Cheers.

I had the classic, "is it a 400 or 455" on my Grande this summer, this with the hood open.

It's the #1 comment that they still think these are USA Pontiac's. Still to this day not everyone knows the Canadian Pontiac.

Even has the factory experimental blue paint highlights on the engine.  Must have been a GM test car that was accidentally sold to the public with the big-small block that was never meant to make it out because it was too efficient and lasted too long, so they wouldn't have been able to sell anymore cars because they would last forever.  Yeah, and I think it was a special top secret government project too.  Better jump right on it and buy it now before the Christmas rush...

I was thinking the very same thing and apparently Donald Trump was involved with the project while the CIA and the FBI over saw the whole top secret project. Most of the files were destroyed, so there is very little evidence.biggrin

I met a guy at a cruise night back around 1987. He had a mint 1970 Tempest 2 door sedan. He said it originally had a GMC 292 straight 6 in it and was used by GM in Oshawa for product testing. He "seemed" like a straight shooter and said he had documentation at home to prove it. It had a 350 in it at that point. Who knows...

"One of 230 made in 2011 ( last year of production)"

is being used all over eBay, AutoTrader and Kijiji to describe any 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis.

Of course the above term is there excuse to jack up the price !

I'm sorry to rant but it's a pet peeve that seems to be growing.

As a worker who helped build these cars, I can tell you that we made thousands of 2011s from August 2010 to January of 2011.

They were to be done by Christmas 2010 but we ran out of parts no

When we returned in January of 2011, we had about 230 left to build,

Hence,

One of 230 made in 2011 ( last year of production)

We closed in September of 2011

The best ones are the adds that even show the build tag showing the build date as 2010 !

Sorry no Ford Canada Page, rant here biggrin

Dumb and bizarre comments? I remember seeing an ad for a 1978 Toyota Celica GT liftback back in 1978 where somebody bought the car and obviously couldn't carry the payments. The ad went on to state, "2 weeks old. Extremely fast." That comment there makes me wonder if he skipped the break-in & just screamed it (since he' learning to drive a manual on this car). By now you're starting to wonder how many thousands of miles he hazed off the clutch. Some things are better left unsaid.

To this day I am still amazed by people who don't understand the difference between gross & net horsepower, and how they would pull out a perfectly usable 350 block & replace it with a thrice-rebuilt 327 because the 327 is a faster motor. Adjust the timing and the smogger 350 will run right on point with a "pre-smog" confuse low-compression 350, with more torque than the 327.

Another instance are those who are totally hung up on having the highest horsepower output (never on a dyno, no time slips, etc.) Loads of braggarts out there talking nonsense. It probably started way back in history the day the second car was built. Speaking of history...

I remember a show i went to in Buffalo, New York about eight years ago where i had my 57 Pontiac on display. I had the hood up and a real friendly older gentleman came up to me and gave me some nice compliments on my 57 and then asked me why i put a six cylinder in my car. I politely told him that my car was a Canadian Pontiac and was based on the Chevrolet and came with Chevrolet motors, including the in line six cylinder. The look on his face and the comments that came out of his mouth after that was anything but friendly. At first he just said that was impossible because all 57 Pontiac's had 347 V-8's and were not Chevrolet's in any way. I continued being polite until he got upset with me and said to me..... "just owe up that you changed the motor in your car." After that i just started talking to other folks that were asking me questions about the car. I kept my cool because after all he was an older chap and American. I get it that many Americans are clueless about ANYTHING that goes on in Canada.

I have always been amazed that when you watch an American TV station and the weather comes on, THERE IS NO CANADA. Also even goofier, is that they always make the Canada land mass far smaller than the U.S. land mass. Canada is the second biggest land mass in the world, right after Russia. Canadian TV stations always show the American land mass in their map view. For Americans to make their country larger in size than Canada is funny and sad at the same time and that speaks volumes about how Americans feel about them selves in general.

I have my Cherokee for sale on Kijiji. Lots of interesting questions.. Not one question about important things like the drivetrain, body rust etc but I did get these questions;

1) Do the lift supports hold the hood and liftgate up?

2) How Many KM's to a tank of gas?

3) Will I get another 100000 km out of it? (My psychic abilities aren't what they used to be)

4) Do the seat heaters work?

I used to work at a major Canadian paper company with papermills all over Canada and the United States. One day while I was at the head sales office in White Plains, NY one of the supervisors came out with a little test for the office staff. A map of the USA with numbers 1-50 in the states. Down the side alphabetically were the 50 states names. All you had to do was put the number beside the corresponding name. About 30 people took the test. A couple of hours later the supervisor came out and said there had been 3 people who got them all correct. He congratulated Tina and then told the rest they should be ashamed of themselves. Someone who was paying attention asked " but I thought you said there were 3 people who got 50 out of 50?" The reply was " yep, Tina and 2 of our Canadian visitors"

There is so much stuff north of the U.S. of A! Americans know it! Igloos, year-round skiing, parkas worn in July, etc., etc.

Hey guys, you should try living in New Zealand. On our last trip to the US I played this little game with the Americans who would constantly ask where we were from. I first asked where they thought from our accents, and probably 90% thought England or Australia before I told them New Zealand. Then I followed up with "and do you know where NZ is? to which some said "part of Australia" or mostly "don't know".

I get it. The United States is the World as far as most of them know. That's why they have a World Series baseball series that only has US teams in it.
