Kevin, do you know if 67 is the same? I would think it likely is and if so I can check my friend's 67 SD396. He's only a few miles away and it's an original stick car.

Are you converting? Do you have any of the backup stuff? I am asking because I have the backup harness that goes inside the firewall for a full size, repro part still in the bag. I found an original for my car so I will use it instead of the repro.

Your friends car will have a Muncie with the 396. My car is an original 327 275 hp stick car so it came with a Saginaw . The fire wall has no hole for speedo or for electric plug for back up lights

I'm not sure about the speedo cable but that seems odd for the backup lights. I thought they used the same switch on the Muncies and Saginaws, so just assumed the wiring would be the same.

And I thought all 66 327's came with a Muncie. I was under the impression it was only 67 that had a Saginaw with a 327. I'm still learning.......!

I'm guessing speedo cable goes out hole by steering column cause Saginaw has  speedo on driver side of tranny. Muncie cars have hole drilled on passenger side of cowl

I bought all the remains of a 66 Beaumont that had a Saginaw with the 327 275 hp. Owner said it was original to the car. I had always thought it would have been a Muncie too

I believe you but I just don't understand it. The parts book lists this harness for all 65-66 Chevelle with 4 speed. (And of course we believe that Beaumont would be the same. I didn't even open the Beaumont book.)

harness  has plug for back up wiring harness to plug into?. Could the backup wiring harnesses be different ?

This one runs from where it clips on beside the steering column to the inside of the firewall and the grommet pushes through so that the plug shows on the outside. The backup switch has the male rubber plug on it that plugs into the female rubber part of this that shows through the firewall.

Because the Saginaw and the Muncie use the same backup switch, I can't believe there is not supposed to be a hole somewhere in the firewall. The plug is made for it and both the switch and the harness are the same, Saginaw to Muncie.

But as I say, I'm willing to learn here...

I looked at many Chevelle pictures and see where that pig tail comes out of the fire wall. My car has no hole there. Really baffled on this one

I called my friend who has many Beaumonts and Chevelles. He says he has a small block 66 4 speed carcass there. I will try to get there one evening soon. He's only 5 minutes away.

Sure, I can do that.

Until not long ago I had always been told Saginaws only came out in 67 in A B and X bodies in Canada but I see the Canadian parts books say otherwise.

Yes, I asked him for pics showing both the backup light harness and the speedo cable. Best part is, the front clip is off the car right now too.
