Our 1968 Triumph TR6R since 1971 - STILL FOR SALE

We've owned this 68 Triumph Trophy 650 (TR6R) since 1971. Wife and I 'road' it all over southern Ontario

for about 15,000 miles (including hwy 400 and 401) when we were a lot younger and could kick start it.

Well it's been sitting for about 15 years so I had a resto shop in London get it going and freshened up.

Kick started this past weekend (just about broke my leg when it kicked back) and rode it up and down

the long driveway - what a bunch of great memories came back. No plans to license it (heavy sigh).

I can always recognize those vertical twins when they approach. The closest thing I ever had to a Triumph of that vintage was a "Cut Out On A '69 Triumph" brochure I got at the Sportsman Show. It had perforations around each bike. Unfortunately it got tossed in the late 1970s.

I did briefly have a Yamaha TX500 twin that was similar to a Triumph Tiger 500 . A trio of different Yamaha Observed Trials bikes.

I still have the '84 Honda XL350R I bought new in April '84.

84XL350R.jpg

First licensed bike was a '77 DT-125

DT125D-2.jpg

After breaking my wrist over Christmas I cannot imagine myself being able to roll the throttle anytime soon, if ever... disbelief

Those old Triumphs were known for nice handling because of the rake, and they were electric & kick-start, tickle the carbs. The original Triumph brand continued to 1983. Years later the name was bought and applied to new line of bikes. They do try to capitalize on the retro style.

That thumper is sweet. Most of the ones I have seen have had the "cafe" treatment or been bobbed. Very refreshing seeing a stock Triumph.

.....the bars and the pipes are not stock but were on the bike when we got it in '71.....the sound is fantastic and the semi-hi bars

make it easier to ride (imo) - even back then when we parked it anywhere there would always be a crowd around it.

Would love to ride it to bike night in Goderich.....biggrin

Asking CA$11,000 obo. An almost identical 67 just sold for US$10,500 on Bring A Trailer.

Have had some interest from the US but they are very hesitant about the border and paperwork.

For some reason my feature sheet won't post here so if anyone wants a copy plz PM your email address.

Triumph's, Norton's and BSA's were some sweet British bikes. I remember back in the the early eighties sitting on and riding a mid sixties BSA single thumper, it shook every bone in my body but what a ride. Just last week i saw a sweet looking late sixties Triumph on the road. Bernie, good luck with the sale of your beautiful bike.

Thanx George

You're right about these being a great riding experience. Not for the faint of heart.

Some medical issues have caused me to sell the bikes. Sold the '02 Triumph to a good friend in Barrie and now

our pride and joy of almost 50 years may be going. This is a bike rider's bike with kick start, mechanical brakes

and just shear joy of ownership. Hoping the new owner will appreciate it as we have.

Beautiful bike Bernie, as were the comparable Norton and BSA of the era. I used to see a lot of these makes in the early 70s before Honda, Kawasaki etc rose to market dominance.

It's hard to believe that you still have it Bernie.no

If it was on PEI, I would take the chance of running the roads with it.

You should try selling on Facebook Marketplace. Friend of mine in Strathroy sold a couple of bikes last week and was bombarded with emails from all over the world. A guy from Montreal drove down and bought one of them.

I can vouch for the Facebook MarketPlace approach.

I recently sold a 1980 Yamaha Midnight Maxim 650 through there.

Thanx for the Facebook suggestion but at present we are not on FB.

(We may be the only ones that aren't).

Would really prefer to sell it without mainline advertising.

Hoping to get a buddy over that can kick start it and do a start/running video.

Been watching Mecum and Hemmings and several similar bikes have sold from US10,000 to $12,500.

If a CP member was interested and could come and get it that CA$9500. would do it......smile
