Rats, we were away!

Little bit of trivia. I grew up about 1/2 mile from Trump Oil. That fire happened a few years before I was born and the refinery struggled after that. A couple of attempts were made to revivie it but it finally shut down early 60's I believe. The property came up for sale and my brother bought it, about 1968-1969. He started parting his wrecked cars there while he was still working as a mechanic at a local dealership but the hobby finally got out of control and he opened his auto wrecking full time there about 1974-1975. In 1979 we had bad spring flooding and his shop had about 3' of water in it for a couple of weeks. With some government assistance he moved the business to town and the property ended up being sold to my current boss who owns the farmland around it.

By coincidence, in 1993 my wife and I ended up moving back to my uncle's property about 1/4 mile from the Trump property and lived there for 23 years. In that time I saw that ridiculously oil soaked dirt where weeds wouldn't even grow get cultivated and seeded with a new crop every year, and the soil rejuvenated itself, amaziningly. Today when you drive by you would never know there were pretty much 2 environmental disasters there, first a refinery where there was oil spilled EVERYWHERE over the years, then an auto wrecking where there was more oil and antifreeze dumped on the ground for years. The crop that grows there looks just like the crops in the surrounding fields.

 It probably even looks better,  it's like it's on steroids for goodness sake.

It really is amazing how much automotive related paraphenalia there was and how much has survived.

huh, I saw this post, and (no offense) mistook Morris for Elkhorn - the only Auto Muesum I knew of in Manitoba;
I was thinking to myself, wow, that museum has really cleaned up...
until I googled it...
DERP.
I've been to Morris... but it has been a LONG time...

How many of you have checked out the Elkhorn museum?

I was astonished at the vehicles there...
That collection is begging for a new owner who can clean up and maintain them.

I was at the elkhorn museum about 20 years ago

when i was there it had a lot of fresh from the barn brass era cars

i am thinking a lot of the cars were donated to the museum

the newest car was a 63 ford
