Great story Ray. Thanks for sharing. This is pretty much the norm here in PEI. A perfect example: A friend of my wife's here in PEI has a daughter (age 11) who was recently diagnosed with Cancer. Her mom runs her own hair salon. She has had to close the shop on a number of occasions to take her daughter to Halifax for treatment. There has been numerous fundraisers, a GoFundMe page set up to help with costs. To make matters worse we just found out mom also has stage 4 lung cancer! So now both mother and daughter are having chemo in Halifax. Friends and neighbors are taking turns taking them to Halifax. I couldn't imagine the stress. Recently all Pizza Hut locations on the island held a fund raiser donating $1.00 from each pizza sold to help with expenses. It was a huge success.

Agreed there are still many very giving people out there and the farming community is many times near the top. Within the last year and a half my kids in Quebec lost their barn to a fire wiping them out of their pigs, chickens, and turkeys. They are young and didn't have the proper outbuilding insurance (like too often you hear) so were saddled with the loss. The farmers around there were awesome. Kids had only been in the community a couple of years but they raised money for them, came and cleaned up the whole mess, formed up and poured a new slab for them, and prepared a site for them to place a seacan so they could have a quick shelter to be back in business. Fire also damaged their large green house but they had assistance with that too. They also feel the support even now in people stopping by and buying their produce, eggs, and meat. It's a great story and lesson for my kids and it has been tough but I think they are much better people having gone through all of this and it gives them a great appreciation for the people that live around them.

It is good to hear a good positive story for a change. News seems to be 98% negative.

Now those are people who know what life is worth. In many ways it sounds like the Mennonites, although in Saskatchewan I guess it would be the Hutterites.

It would have been a double tragedy not only with the loss of the husband & breadwinner, but the crops as well. Still the future will be tough for the family. Thank God for a community like that one.

Selflessness isn't all that rare from what I have seen. Years ago when mom had a cancerous cyst removed and was in the hospital, we had an endless procession of casseroles and prepared meals dropped off by many of mom's friends. Our family ate like kings thanks to their care and generosity. This year after breaking my wrist I had several neighbors offering to shovel my snow, cut my grass and drive us to appointments & grocery shopping. They made good on it.
