Shopping online for another car I come across some in the US marked No Title. Being from Ontario all cars have an ownership so they can be licensed.

What do you carry in the car if it has no title ?

Its not licensed and they dont know where to get govt ownership papers. In the us you have a title document and different rules in each state for replacing a lost title document. You cant get one into Canada without a registration, unless you take it apart and bring it in as parts.

I'm sure I've seen ads in Hemmings of companies saying they can always get a title. Not sure how it works, but I suspect a bunch of paperwork, and unlikely worth the cost.

Some states do not have titles on older cars. I bought a car from one of these states on a bill of sale only. I had my broker do the paperwork as I was bringing the car through Ontario on my way back from the US. You now need to do the paperwork through a broker to bring a car across the border. I had no problems with this deal .

Contact a broker and do all paperwork while on this side of the boarder and they will make sure you have what you need to bring it this way. I would also contact the ministry of transportation here. Both the customer service number and office which you will use to make sure you can provide all what they need and both the office and the customer service number agree with each other

Funny thing.
The question asked is what do you carry in your car as proof of ownership. Not how to get one...

In Alberta we don't use titles, we only have registrations.   I carry the registration in the car, along with proof of insurance.

We have a separate title document and plate permit in NS. You carry the plate permit in the car, from the few Ive seen from the us, I think they have systems like we do, some states have 1 document, some have 2.

plate permits say who owns the car and who owns the vehicle (which is different if the vehicle is leased).
