It was called Stampede Pontiac. I'm looking for a good one for a guy in Texas.

Here's what one from the 60's looks like:

Stampede Pontiac Buick.jpg

This particular one is a little pitted, and is on a 67 Firebird from Fort Worth TX.  I told the guy I'd see if I could find him a better one, but like anything else you never see them when you're looking for them.

Probably depends on what era you're talking about.

Hmmm, it was always Stampede Pontiac Buick as a kid, same as the emblem on the '67 Firebird. The historical photo has a '57 Pontiac in front of the dealership, and the emblem you show looks to be from a '65, but tough to tell.

Yeah, looks like the business reorganized over the years - a couple of the links refer to it as Stampede Pontiac Buick (1988) Ltd, indicating that there was some change in the business in 1988 (admittedly I don't know exactly how the rules work for this).

Also it looks like they called themselves Stampede GMC later on, likely to take advantage of the popularity of large trucks, especially during the 'oil years'...

I'm like you in that I always seem to default to the original name for the dealership, which sounds like it was Stampede Motors...

I think that by the late 60's "Motors"....went out of style.....for car dealer names.....

it was prolly perceived....as being too narrow and old fashioned... of a word....for a modern dealership

as pointed out, the dealership went through name changes.

I only knew it as either "Stampede Pontiac" or "Stampede Pontiac Buick GMC".

For a brief period in the late 1990's, one of my brothers friends worked there after hours cleaning up the offices and showroom - I still have a calendar from them that I grabbed from one of my visits.
I think the property has sat unused largely since the GM bankruptcy fiasco of 2009/2010... As I seem to recall they shut their doors in 2010.

Attached is a google image of the property - which apparently the showroom/shop was demolished in recent years... (I don't venture downtown too often, and when I do all the stupid one way roads prevent me from meandering too far from any intended destination)

Stampede Motors / Stampede Pontiac Buick was on 17th Avenue SW just west of 14th Street for many years, as seen in the historic photos previously posted. They later (I'm guessing the mid 90's) moved to the lot across from Metro Ford on 9th Avenue SW, that was previously a Chrysler dealership (I can't remember which one, maybe Renfrew?). It's the 9th Avenue location seen in the Google map photo.

no way was it mid 1990's - definitely before that.

Granted I am not that old, but I don't remember it being anywhere else.

If I had to guess, I'd say mid 1980's at the latest...

I would be VERY surprised if they hadn't moved well before the 1988 winter Olympics.

That picture with the photographer in the reflection looks to be my car. My build sheet says the car was ordered to Stampede Pontiac Buick in Calgary. 1969 Beaumont

Based on the BBB link posted above I would say the dealership moved to  9th Avenue in 1988.
