I've always thought the Corvair was a quirky, yet kind of neat car.  Almost bought one several years ago and never really got them out of my mind, but still haven't driven one.

Anyhow, here's an interesting video that discusses the Nader/handling issue:

When I was 16, I brought home a 63 Corvair conv to show my dad......He made me take it back. Ended up with a Falcon conv......

Always loved them but never owned one. I prefer the second generation (1965-1969) and if i did own one it would be the four carb 140 horse Monza with factory four speed stick. Nader can go **** ***.

My brother in law bought a 65 Corsa new. It was a really good car. Carved corners better than my other sister's boyfriend MG too.

I wouldn't consider myself a fan but I do like it. It's the Convair van that I would be worried in. I wouldn't like to be sitting so close to the bumper having the equipment designed in 1960 amidst the furious traffic of today. But the coupe or sedan, no problem with that!

Yes, but to be fair, all of the 1960s van had that same cab forward design, where your feet are right behind the front bumper.

As Jay Leno says about those 60's vans : "You are the first on the scene of an accident"

 biggrin  True enough...

You can see this 'standard' Chev van from '65 has the same layout - zero crumple zone.

You'd be safer to turn the driver's seat around and drive in reverse!
