Permalink Closed

My son came along to watch the show and created a YouTube video of the break in and dyno pulls on my 454 thats going into my 72 Nova.

A big shout out to Mike Medvin, the talented builder of this street beast!

Right on Mike, sounds good! Should be fun to go shred some tires!

Mike Medvin also cheered up my 396 but it is not the beast your 454 is! Congratulations and have fun!

Jake

Thanks Eric,

I took a short block and heads to my engine builder and requested something that would get peoples attention when I roll through a shown shine. Not going to race it so around 400 hp would make me happy. He just smiled and got to work. My block failed the pressure test (cracked) and my crank was cut beyond use so with only a decent set of heads I hunted down another block and crank.

The block was bored .030 over, align bored and decked. The Speed Pro Forged Dome pistons with the cast iron open chamber heads result in a 9.5-10/1 compression ratio. The cam is a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy flat tappet hydraulic with a 268/280 Duration and .515/.520 Lift. The intake is the Chevrolet Performance, Oval Port, CNC Port matched, Dual Plane, Aluminum manifold used on the 502 crate engine. Carburetor is a Holley 780 cfm with vacuum secondaries. Ignition is a GM HEI.

We were both pretty happy with the dyno results! Im really looking forward to getting my Nova together with this beast under the hood.

Mike, which heads did you use in the build?  I was wondering if it is the 336781 or a 353049 head in your build?

The heads are the 336781 casting. Im really happy with them and I think to make any improvement I would have to step up to an aluminium set.

Looking and sounding good! Are you going to work on the suspension and run some sticky tires? It should haul pretty good!
